What the hell are those rubber clogs everyone is wearing?

My sister in law actually bought me some the other day ! Although they are extremely comfortable, they look ridiculous and i'd never wear them in public.

Lol, yeah, I was a bit surprised to see them out and about on the streets, they're the kind of shoes we wear in the operating theatre :D

Do the holes let dripping body fluids straight through then? ;)

Apparently they are really comfortable... but seriously if you are over the age of 11 and wear them you look bloody ridiculous.

Flip flops > Crocs

Ack! Flip-flops look awful and they sound worse, scraping along the floor. Cant stand the image of a woman in flip flops, nasty.

So you prefer Crocs to Flip flops?

I'm sorry but the fact that Crocs look ghey easily make Flip Flops > Crocs :p

Hey if they good enough for Jesus they good enough for me! well that the reasoning I use with the lads for when they what to take the mick. I love wearing flip flops in summer, better than having sweaty smelly feet.

Yeah, I do! And any man in flip flops needs to be beaten to within an inch of his life with them!

No need to be sorry, we all make mistakes ;)

Maybe, but that combination is very few and far between. You're much more likely to see some overweight, muffin top sporting chav scraping along ****** and blinding to her equally unattractive mates.

They look like shoes for specials.

Good for people who can't be trusted with real shoes in case they try and chew them.

I'm female, so why would I refer to men? Men look ghey in any remotely beachy footwear - sandals/flip flops/crocs/jelly shoes.

Don't know why I was sorry as I had nothing to apologise for...oh well!

By the way they're not rubber and weren't first made for gardening ;) They're a foam resin made from ethylene vinyl acetate and were originally designed as a boating shoe (Apparently because they are extremely light [about 6 ounces], non-slip on most surfaces, very quick drying and, don't mark surfaces). The original ones are called Crocs and have various patents on the design and materials all the others are cheap far east copies that use a foam resin of a much poorer quality than the original Crocs ones.

They don't float my boat but I can see the appeal on the comfort side. The reason I know the above is because I've been involved in doing the risk assesments and uniform re-evaluations at the Hospital I'm based on. There are Crocs with no holes in the top so liquid spillage is not an issue, the main problem we have found is through static build up in the body (They are brilliant insulators) and the possible damage it could cause to sensitive equipment in ITUs & HDUs. On the other side Nurses who in the past have been working with nearly crippling back & leg pain have found a new lease of life wearing them.

I hope you're not going to embargo them due to a potential static risk. After all, when changing sheets etc you should see the kind of sparks that frequently fly around even on normal shoes. I have no doubt you know about "risk assesment" but most medical devices are grounded, and have to be tolerant to static discharges.

The more important question nobody has asked yet is, HOW MUCH DO THEY COST?

I think the original Crocs are £30 or something but you can get decent copies for as little as £5.

I first saw them when I went to the states last year, then not long after I came back, I saw LOADS of people wearing them all over the place.

Personally, I think they look hideous, but then again, my dress sense can be pretty bad lol.

I pointed out to the investigating commitee that sensitive (more importantly to them expensive  ) equipment is grounded and should be tolerent to the effects of a discharge, but unfortunately some of the manufacturers have gibbed and say they need to conduct further investigations (add to that the Head of Estates guy on the panel is an arse). The main problem is that a precedent has been set by a Hospital in Sweden who have banned them for that exact reason, we now have to find reasons why we shouldn't ban them :(
