Pension fund performance - do you monitor yours, how is it doing, do you actively change it?

He asked if it was good over the last year. The only way to answer that question is to compare to what the alternatives were last year, and that was not good. If the question was "is 12.6% return per year good?" the answer would be different, of course. Would you really be happy with 12% return...

    This Business and Moment...

Sounds like a lot of middling tech companies. Probably just milk it while it lasts with an eye open to something better. I've been in that situation before. It was stressful but it actually worked out OK because despite having to manage up and paint a sparkly picture and roadmap, the management...

Pension fund performance - do you monitor yours, how is it doing, do you actively change it?

Not very good compared to a global fund and awful compared to US stocks. 1 year is a short timeframe to compare though.

Pension fund performance - do you monitor yours, how is it doing, do you actively change it?

I dunno if it's just a personal preference thing...we've been pretty stagnant since the dotcom bubble burst in 2000. FTSE 100 Versus S&P 500... I got killed by a ****** default Aviva fund that weighted mostly towards the UK in my early pension investment years. Wish I had weighted towards the...

    The nervous wait to exchange....

£3.5k is probably quite decent if it includes everything except stamp duty. I was quite surprised how much it had gone up by when I sold a flat last year - £1.2k just for sale and that was with a conveyancer up north near where I live. Same conveyancer charged £650 for a sale in 2017. The...

Pension fund performance - do you monitor yours, how is it doing, do you actively change it?

I check the value of my SIPP like 3x a day. It's totally unhelpful and I never make any changes based on it. I admire people who can just look at it once a quarter or year!

    The nervous wait to exchange....

It almost feels like solicitors don't actually want to get it done ASAP. It's at the bottom of their queue until a few months in one gets their act together followed by the other and suddenly things move really quickly. All the chasing and escalating you did previously was worthless. :(

£25 a week extra on my state pension

I don't think so, I think they are based on analysis of predicted ratio of working vs non working age population over time.

Who has had their roof cleaned?

Would like to get mine done at some point. Gutter down pipes get blocked up with moss washing off the roof every year.

British Airways business class seating sucks on the A380

I'm on BA premium economy for a 10 hour each way flight next week. Dreading it. Most of my recent travel has been to US on Virgin, so much better.

British Airways business class seating sucks on the A380

Looks like BA A380s have 7 seats to a row in business class vs 4 on Emirates. Wow. I'd have had high expectations for BA biz class on the A380. Although I'd expect to be able to step over someone's legs without having to move them.

    Joining a startup

Not really enough to be a significant factor in decision making is it? Unless you have good reason to believe the market price will be many times more in the near future and the vesting conditions will be met?

£25 a week extra on my state pension

It's good in one way and bad in another - yet another burden on working age people.

£25 a week extra on my state pension

There is no paying in or contributing to a state pension. State pension for current retirees is paid for by taxing current workers. The relationship between NI and state pension is only eligibility.

£25 a week extra on my state pension

I don't know how people would live only on state pension, even with triple lock. I agree with the comments that state pension age is only going to increase. It's going to be a miserable existence without a well funded personal pension, trapped into working to an ever increasing age and when you...

Jury Service (Do NOT turn this into a 'how to get out of jury service' thread)

Take laptop along to browse or work. I got called when I was 18. Was a pretty interesting experience although one of two cases was grim. Met some other people around my age and we went to the pub for lunch every day.
