Audi Service - some advice please

Rubber was the wrong word, it's a sort of foam same as the bump stops on the shocks. I have never seen them that bad on a spring, even the Vauxhall ones seem to last longer and they have to be pulled off the spring.

Audi Service - some advice please

Rear spring mount as in the rubber things? They shouldn't be worn on a 4 year old audi. 20 year old Vauxhalls one are still in good shape even after being pulled off 20 times. Don't vag dealers send you a video tour of all the issues?

Dealing with garages that cant fix a problem?

What kind of noise? Squealing would be the pad vibrating, maybe anti rattle shims missing, a loud clunk could be loose pad carrier bolts but this will only happen once when applying brakes. You Dont want to leave them bolts loose. Some cheap pads like to squeal.

    Mounting radiator upside-down.

Easy to drain, I have ports down and ports up. The ports up doesn’t drain so I have to remove and tip it upside down. I also have a multi port rad that also doesn’t drain unless I crack a blanking plug and let air in. I want to epoxy a g1/4 boss on the bottom to make it less of a headache

quick question about OEM xenon retrofits

They should check as they have to zero it when checking beam pattern. But as I have witnessed some don’t until they see the pattern is too low/high agree, but Washers have to be fitted and operational from 2009 and for levelling “Sometimes it is not easy to determine if the self-levelling...

    Repairing corroded sills

I had one that just passed mot but as soon as I put it on the ramp, got the wheels off the ground to check it’s on safe it dropped. Some fool had stuck it on with silicone and painted over it. It was a good effort as they made it look like stacked pennys. It was right over the jacking point too

Expected cost and time of bonnet repair

Body shops varies in price and end result. £250 is probably a smart repair. There should be some videos on YouTube, there definitely some on tictok and Facebook reels. It’s amazing how they massage the dent out, chips away are franchises so might be hit and miss.

    Repairing corroded sills

No, it’s includes tapping the hole to find sound metal and welding the smallest patch possible. Should really treat the rust and patch over. A garage will only patch to pass mot. A body shop will repair to as it was out the factory, I use that term loosely the end result depends on how much you...

Suspension issue - garage can't find anything

Don’t buy parts from eBay. Eurocarparts offers online discounts for collection sometimes cheaper than trade prices. A lot of garages have stopped using them. Customer supplied parts are a nightmare, get the wrong part and the car is stuck on the ramp leading to jobs backing up and apparently...

    Slower acceleration after a service

Yes tyre pressures. Is the pressure on the sticker lower than what you put in? I have had one put the max pressure on the sidewall moan that his car is sluggish after inflating tyres to the psi on the sticker, we can’t inflate more than what’s on the sticker.

Can you run a bolt extractor in the drill?

Suspension/Brake issue that no garage can diagnose

I’ve had a loose pad carrier make knocking sound also pads that some fool had spent a considerable amount of time grinding down too much to fit the carrier, instead of cleaning the corrosion from under the shims. But your issue sounds like a worn drop link or arb bushes

Suspension issue - garage can't find anything

Sometimes its worth getting a 2nd even a 3rd look it’s hard trying to replicate a sound within a timeframe. You can only allocate so much time to investigate a fault without charging the customer. Alternative is to fire the parts cannon and replace, I’d be looking at bushes they love creaking.
