what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

I'm using the hybrid velours and both subjective listening and measurements from my crappy rig show that the mid bass is definitely toned down (with sub bass extension being more or less identical) and a peak in the lower treble, which might be why you're hearing the treble as being slightly...

Just got these in yesterday: They are ZMF Omni's with zebra wood cups. Some impressions here: LINK @Ryanr1987 - I have the feeling you'd probably like these a lot. They're kinda like a warmer sounding LCD-2 pre-fazor. Very nice indeed.

Extension is decent, maybe not quite as good as the Nighthawk, but similar. I need to do some more comparisons to check (plus I'm using hybrid velours on the Nighthawk). Noticeable sibilance in the treble at times so yep, that typical Fostex treble wonkiness is still there just not as bad as...

Picked these up a couple of days ago: Fostex X Massdrop TH-X00 They sound pretty decent for the most part, decent bass extension and impact. Mids aren't recessed (but not lush sounding either), no upper mid range emphasis which is good. Treble does have some noticeable sibilance though (not...

    Sony MDR-Z7 - Extended Impressions

Haha yeah it took me a few months to cobble my impressions together (I tend to just start out with a lot of text then cull back so it's actually digestible without too much filler). Can't say I've ever noticed any change between cables on various headphones. But I'm not going to get into that...

    Sony MDR-Z7 - Extended Impressions

Yeah I plan on experimenting with damping. I've finally gotten around to cobbling together a basic measurement system so I should be able to actually tell what is effective and what isn't.

    Sony MDR-Z7 - Extended Impressions

Sony MDR-Z7 - extended impressions TLDR: Laid back, comfortable, and a little bit meh. Preamble: My sound preference: Generally on the warm and dark side of neutral. Source Chain: PC --> BMC PureDAC --> Taurus (balanced out) --> Headphones Other headphones used: LCD-2 (non fazor)...

Have you tried modding your Z7's at all? I've got parts for my measurement kit I'm building (very basic) and I'm planning on probably adding some damping material into the housing since they don't have any at all to try and fix the boomy bass. I should also probably post my impressions of...

I would take a look at some of Zach's offerings like the ZMF Omni (lot's of good feedback on Changstar/HF/reddit) a T50RP mod. Also there might be some up and coming models to interest you like the HiFiMan Edition-X (a cross between HE-560/HE-1000), MrSpeakers Ether Closed (meant to be a...

Quick update on the Nighthawks. I did some basic modding today (replaced the pads and stuffed some polyfill behind the driver) and I got a positive improvement (for my tastes at least). Overall bass quantity has been reduced so it doesn't sound as thick/bloated compared to stock. Highly...

That upper mid range dip is really starting to become noticeable (and not that pleasant to my ears) now that I've got the rest of my collection with me. I think I'll have to investigate some mods to see if this can be fixed (there are also rumors that AQ might be releasing alternative ear pads)...

^ Noice! Now just take out the fabric covering the drivers and definitely look into the Anax 2.0 mod: http://www.changstar.com/index.php?topic=497.0

I wrote some more stuff here: https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/3l775u/first_new_toy_since_moving_back_to_the_us/ This is still early days yet but I wouldn't say my impressions of it have really changed all that much. If you're interested in it, I would highly recommend demoing...

Time will tell I guess, the leather strap that mounts to the ear cups seems fairly durable. But who knows... The arboform cups do look pretty nice.

First purchase since moving back across the pond: Audioquest Nighthawk, definitely not what I would consider neutral sounding. Think a darker HD 650 with more sub bass, and a less forward mid range (not v-shaped, but not lush). More impressions to follow.

    Headphone amp for HD800

First off, look into the Anax 2.0 mod: http://www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,497.0.html It makes the transition from the upper mid range - lower treble a bit more linear, and helps to reduce some of the nasty peaks without making the headphone sound dark. I would highly recommend doing this...

    hum noise when using amplifier.

I should point out that an external DAC/amp doesn't necessarily mean you will eliminate issues with noise or ground loops in your system. I had terrible ground loop issues (scratchy noises when moving the mouse like yourself) with my old system (PC --> USB --> Yulong D100 MkII --> Woo Audio...

How Well Can You Hear Audio Quality?

5/6 but 3 of those were complete guesses between 320 and lossless so realistically it's more like 2/6 (this was with PureDAC->Taurus->EL-8C so no issues with the source chain). Having now read a post on reddit, it kind of spoils the test If you want a much better test to see if you can...

    Moving on from onboard sound

What are you expecting to improve on by getting an external DAC/Amp? The Momentums are pretty sensitive so don't really need more power, and unless you are getting a lot of EMI or related noise through your onboard sound, an external DAC/amp would likely be wasted on you.
