    Loft tank question

Thanks. I had assumed the mixing hot water into your cold tank may be a health issue, but I guess it is only used in an emergency event. I've only looked at the tanks as they have started overflowing out into the garden. So I guess I have a leaky ball float value or a knackered washer. From...

    Loft tank question

The house has multiple bathrooms and two immersion tanks - used to be a bed and breakfast - so perhaps just two tanks to make a super big one!

    Loft tank question

Thanks. For clarity I have two large tanks in the loft which are the same size and connected. There is a small header tank in the loft, but this is empty and capped off, so no longer in use.

    Loft tank question

Hi, I am trying to understand how my loft tank works and was looking for some advice... So in my loft I have two closed/covered black water tanks, which are connected to each other by a 22mm pipe - so in essence they a single tank. One tank has a 15mm cold feed controlled by a ball float...

    Leaking Shower Question

Well. Finally got the cartridge out. It seems it is a Bristan cartridge and just pulls out. The backplate stays in place. So I now have a part number, but problem is... 1) no where has a cartridge in stock for today. Will need to wait a few days. 2) I cannot isolate the hot and cold feed to...

    Leaking Shower Question

Thanks, the bars do unscrew, and once circlip and two nuts later the "cartridge?" Is uncovered. Turning the shower on and it is clear that water is appearing around the top of the cartridge (image below). https://imgur.com/a/wakpuUm So what now? Turn the water off (hot and cold) and uses a...

    Leaking Shower Question

Don't say that... it has been like it for about 6 months and I only thought to ask the question now! The shower is on the ground floor and backs onto the hallway.. so sign of any water issues.. but i guess that is no guarantee of no issues. Guess I'd better take apart tomorrow.

    Leaking Shower Question

Hello, I have a shower that runs from the taps and has a faceplate with hot and cold control knows (see below picture). https://imgur.com/gallery/rPtdkQe When in operation, water seems to run out from under the lower temperature control. I presume these means something has failed... - so is...

    Inverter Farked??

I did not think of it like that. I guess there is nothing special about mc4 connectors, and no reason why they have to be the only solution.

    Inverter Farked??

Agree. The learning time is not wasted time. And who knows it may burn out again next week! Re the wire strippers the amazon reviews pointed out the issue. So i was not upset when they arrived as I was expecting it.

    Inverter Farked??

Well I did talk to one guy and he talked through all the things and tests I had done and said he would have to get a scaffold up and then remove and check each panel in turn. But that was before I spotted the fried connector. After that I emailed him to see if he wanted to replace it, but not...

    Inverter Farked??

Cost was £19 for a kit from amazon. Oddly the kit included wire strippers that could not strip 4mm wire, but I tend to use a blade anyhow. I ended up using the connectors from the amazon kit, so hopefully they stand up. Re time, a good few hours soaking up wisdom on here and reading on the...

    Inverter Farked??

Hi again. Well finally decided to get the ladder out and see what I could do about my duff connector. Decided today was the day as it was a bit grey (not baking sun) and not wet. So up the ladder I go to roof level. I managed to disconnect the panel from the rest of the string.. no shock...

    Inverter Farked??

I was just wondering if a crap crimp was what caused the melted connection in the first place. And whilst I hope to move, with how the UK seems to be going, I may end up not moving too. So I would rather spend a little more and do a good job, if there are better rated tools and connections...

    Inverter Farked??

Well just taken another look. The connection from the incoming panel is low down just a roof tile above gutter level. So all looks doable from a ladder.. assuming I get no replies from an engineer.

    Inverter Farked??

With regards to tools and connectors.. is this sort of thin OK? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07TYCD47C/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8 Or is their likely to be a bit if a difference between manufacturers and their quality? I'm always a bit wary of Amazon sellers and their reviews...

    Inverter Farked??

It is a fair point. And for me will depend on how easy it looks to disconnect the panel from the rest of the string. I've not been up to look at this aspect yet. I do have a scaffold tower that I may be able to work from, but all depends if I can reach what I need to without setting foot on the...

    Inverter Farked??

Thanks for the thoughts and comments. Still waiting for an engineer to get back to me with a quote, and the more time that passes, the more I am inclined to do it myself. One more question however... if I isolate the panels from the inverter and then look to disconnect the faulty panel from...

    Inverter Farked??

Thanks for the posts chaps. I've had a look at a few videos and fitting a new connector does not seem that bad, assuming the crimping tools work OK. So if I isolate the inverter, by turning off the AC supply and the DC isolator and remove the MC4 connections from the panels to the inverter...
