    Spec me some arctic gear!

Last winter it hit -17 in Edinburgh, and I cycled into work every day. I wore just a Buffalo Special Six on top, shorts down below and I was toasty warm. However, given that the Buffalo is a bit minging to look at, I'd suggest either a down jacket or a synthetic equivalent. Is Sweden likely to...

Help me choose a MTB bike...

How hard do you ride it?!? I've got one and never felt it was at its limits, although I've since replaced it with an Enduro and a Genesis hardtail as my riding has evolved. A Genesis Latitude might be an idea, good steel frames and well specced. If you can get the 853 one for the money, you're...

    Quick Bike Question

I would say no, not cheaply. If you bought the bike new and there is no visible release lever, then your bike has more than likely got a solid axle that is attached with nuts, and these axles can't be replaced. It would mean a new front hub at the very least, although when you factor in a wheel...

Road bike vs Hardtail Mountain bike

I'd say less than £200 unless it genuinely is pristine. Standard formula that most seem to work to is half less 10% for every year of ownership. OP: Road bikes make a huge difference. If you don't want to go fully slick, consider a cyclocross instead as they're more upright and can still be...

    Paid for surveys

I also get the occasional invite from Fhios, but it was ten years ago when I was last accepted into their survey as I don't seem to be within their target demographic...

    Lifeguarding CV

Do you have recent experience of anything related to the role you are going for? Have you perhaps coached, lifeguarded or helped out in a club? I started out lifeguarding for a couple of clubs at 16, back in the days when a Bronze Medallion would suffice, and did some teaching too. Through that...

    Tesco's clubcard voucher exchange

I was considering it this time, but noticed that you can triple them for Goldsmiths vouchers. I've always lusted after a certain watch, so this brings it to me that little bit sooner...

    Paid for surveys

I'm in Consumer Pulse, which is fantastic. I can't remember how I got invited to it, but I reckon I've had well over £150 from them over the last couple of years for what is essentially no work. You get paid in vouchers, but they're for real shops and actual gift vouchers as opposed to money...

Robbers forgot to read sign ""Abandon hope all ye who enter here"

Fair enough, but we seem to have an embedded culture of rehabilitation and giving the offender too many rights, whereas the Americans have a far more punitive penal system. Each has their benefits, however it is clear that our approach does not dissuade people from re-offending.

Robbers forgot to read sign ""Abandon hope all ye who enter here"

I definitely think he did the right thing and shouldn't be charged. Had this been in Britain, he would have been charged with murder and the surviving robbers would claim their human rights had been infringed due to their enforced disability after being shot. A no win no fee lawyer would then...

Iphone 3.0.1 firmware out.. Fixes sms vulnerability

I did it this morning and it bricked my 3GS - error 1603 then 1604 when I went into DFU mode. I had to restore it on another PC before transferring it back here, what a waste of time! al

    Edinburgh zoo

I'd recommend public transport instead of driving - it can be a nightmare to get parked on busy days meaning you can have up to a mile to walk before you even get to the zoo. And I second the comments about it being hilly, I've always found the best approach is to go straight for the top and...

    Cycle To work Scheme

I got my first MTB - Rockhopper - on the cheap 3 and a bit years ago, and I reckon it's done about 8000 miles since as it's also my commuter. I can't recommend the scheme enough, it has worked wonders for my fitness. But as my work did it through Halfords and it gets done annually, I can't...

    Underpaid interest by £211? RBS

Just work out your interest accrual yourself in Excel, I spend all day doing this for loan interest and it really is a piece of cake. Interest = principal balance * rate *(days / 365) Do this for each change in rate and that will give you your total interest accrued.
