Penalty Charge Notices London = JOKE!!

I can sympathise! I was recently issued a PCN for stopping in a box junction. Like many others in this thread only my rear wheels were touching the box junction and I was stopped for only a few seconds. My circumstances were that there was a space in the adjacent lane across the junction so I...

Squash - Any good shout outs on rackets?

Well, if you want a racquet that is focused on control then you should go for something that is head-light. This is what a large majority of the pro's and "good" amateurs use. I've always liked Dunlop racquets with a traditional, not oversized (around 470cm²) head, so whenever I break a racquet...

"One of the best UFO photos ever"

I haven't exhaustively read the whole thread so apologies if I'm repeating something already said. Everyone commenting in this thread should go and read The Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagan before commenting further. You only have to read the first few chapters to cover the stuff related to...

Alfa Romeo GT - Good Idea?

The 156 suffers from rust around the front wheel arches apparently, but no reports of a similar affliction for the 147 or GT yet, both of which are based on the same platform. I own a 147 GTA, so my position is not neutral, but I do think the more recent alfas (156 onwards) are...

    Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [19 - 23rd April 2013]

Has anyone mentioned that Defoe did basically the same thing to Mascherano in 2006 and received a yellow card for it? The FA let him off further punishment under the "officials had seen the incident" rule. There's no doubt that Suarez is an idiot and has issues, but some objectivity from...

    Weekend skiing

I can recommend Mountain Sun -we stayed at Les Melezes, Tignes last year. http://www.mountainsunltd.com/ Haven't looked at this year's prices, but last year they were very reasonable for transfers, accommodation and food.

Broken 2000/W 1.4 VW Polo - how much is it worth?

Thanks for the replies guys.. good advice about putting it up on ebay. If I can't push the garage for a little more than £200 I'll put it on there. kerrgreg - If I had somewhere to do the work I'd give it a go, I have the Haynes manual and the parts certainly are cheap!

Broken 2000/W 1.4 VW Polo - how much is it worth?

Thanks 4T5- I've already been to 2 different garages for quotes and £520 (+ my excess to change the front windscreen) was the best of them. I have no doubt that if I scoured the area (West London) I'd find a better quote, but £200 and a hassle free sale of a broken car is quite a tempting combo...

Broken 2000/W 1.4 VW Polo - how much is it worth?

... my guess is not very much! I have a 2000/W 1.4E VW Polo, which is going to cost me more to fix than I'm willing to pay - £600 to get it through the MOT, which is due in the next couple of weeks. I was only going to keep it for the next 6 months anyway, and can easily manage without a car...

    My toaster is utter garbage

I have a 2-slice version of the toaster in the OP and I've never had problems with it burning one side and leaving the other untoasted, or uneven toasting.

    Buying an amp, Marshall MG50DFX?

Quite right, plugging headphones into an amp always sounds rubbish. The speaker/cabinet contributes to the overall sound as much as the amp itself. If you're mostly playing through headphones then you want something like a Line6 POD rather than an amp.

Dumbest lyrics you've ever heard in a song

These lyrics take some beating in my book: "You're a vegetable, you're a vegetable Still they hate you, you're a vegetable You're just a buffet, you're a vegetable They eat off of you, you're a vegetable" -MJ You Gotta Be Startin' Something

    Settle a debate

It's not quite as simple as that. Of course, the word "of" is correct, however in the industry I work in when stating a quantity of something the word "off" is used. I have no idea why, but a quick google says this: "It comes out of manufacturing, in which off has long been used to mark a...

Running an Extension Lead off an Extension Lead?

Clearly the items you have connected to this 13A socket are not drawing as much current as their output suggests they might or you would have blown the fuse by now... I make it 5.8kW in total, factor in an efficiency of about 0.8 and that gives a peak consumption of 7.25kW, which would be...

Vista Install with Asus A8N-VM CSM

Hi, I'm trying to install Vista (a dual boot of XP and Vista to be precise) and have so far not been able to boot from the dvd. The install program loads files, then I get the scrolling bar screen, then after that I get the blue backdrop screen and a mouse pointer (which I can move to my heart's...

    Whats your guitar amp?

Marshall TSL122 Pros: It has valves which glow. Cons: A bit loud really, but don't believe others when they say that a valve amp at "low" volume sounds worse than a transistor amp at the same volume. Simply not true. I've never heard a transistor amp which can replicate the tone of the...

what do you call someone from portugal?

That's just wrong. Your sentence implies that Ronaldo is the Nation of Portugal's favourite player, which is not the intended meaning. "Nation's favourite Portuguese player" is correct.
