    Story behind your forum username?

Rosco P Coltrane is the sheriff from the Dukes of Hazzard. I had just named my cat Rosco after rewatching a few episodes and I was after a new memorable forum name. The P in Rosco P Coltrane stands for Purvis James Best who played Rosco was a talented actor who had previously played many...

Good (out of the box) track oriented cars

A little late perhaps, but I'd like to echo the comments of a few of the posters who know what it means to take a car on track without an unlimited budget. Top priority is something light. Primarily because the weight is your enemy on track. Most performance road cars feel like heavy wallowy...

    Spec me... £50k (ish) budget

For a radical, trailer and test day (rather than track day) is the way to go. Have a look into the options around race series for the car too - you might find you soon want to go and race it, so it's better to start with the right spec/kit. 2nd hand is much more cost effective. Well maintained...

Problem With Upstairs Neighbours Young Child

How exactly do you discipline a two year old so they behave to a standard 'in line with what you would expect from an Adult'? If you can answer that you either are set to be a millionaire when you write a book sharing your insight, or currently have no concept of what it's like to bring up a...

    What would you do?

Surely much of the responsibility lies with the sister of the laptop owner. She used her brother's laptop without his permission and as a result of an accident it was broken. No reasonable friend would expect you to pay in this situation. The attitude they have taken proves they are not...

    A fast & fun eco cruiser - A paradox?

I have driven both the vRS Octavia and the 530d. A heavier car with all that low down torque will no doubt feel quicker on the road, but that doesn't actually make it quicker in reality. I'm lucky enough to spend my weekends racing and testing and racing a wide variety of cars. What's always...

    A fast & fun eco cruiser - A paradox?

Power output and weight are also routinely published. It's simply not 'considerably quicker' by any objective measure whether you've driven both or not.

    A fast & fun eco cruiser - A paradox?

0-60 is a very narrow definition for 'considerably quicker' particularly when comparing fwd and rwd cars. Looking at power to weight: Octavia vRS 220bhp 1350kg = 163bhp/ton BMW 530i 268bhp 1710kg = 157bhp/ton That looks lot more like comparable performance, before you take into account...

    Skoda

The engine won't be run in yet. It took 8k+ before mine loosened up and the mpg improved significantly.

Swimming Pool in the wife's Golf

I had something similar with a mk1 Octavia. The drain pipes for the sunroof lead to a hole just above the wheelarch. One of these pipes had become detached and was draining into the boot. Pull the trim back around the wheel arches and look for anything similar?

    Skoda

I'll never understand why anyone would wreck the ride with lower profile tyres and less suspension compliance particularly in a car like this that you buy for it's practically as much as it's performance. Each to their own of course :) Towing a trailer 'fixes' the rear ride height I have...

Nuclear Fusion - So, how we doing?

JET is in Oxfordshire not Japan. Japan did have a similar Tokamak facility until 2010 though.

    Upgrade advice please

Thanks for the help. The case has loads if clearance - I'm currently using a scythe ninja (I should find out if I can reuse it) The PSU has 384W on the 12v. The 7850 isn't particularly power hungry and as I understand the CPU shouldn't really use more power than my old one. Is there any other...

    Upgrade advice please

I'm currently running an old X2 550BE (unlocked to use 4 cores) with a Radeon HD7850. It's time to upgrade CPU, motherboard, CPU cooler and Ram but I'm well out of the loop and could do with some help with the new spec. The main reason for the upgrade is to run iracing better as it's...

First time on track in my S2000 - Castle Combe

Were the hand gestures really necessary? It's not exactly the sign of a driver who is calm and in control, especially as you really didn't get held up for that long. Things can go expensively wrong on a race circuit if you let the red mist take control. Enjoy the track day, accept there will...

Old Petrol Cans - Empty for 4 Years, Safe?

The paint often flakes off, but they'll be fine. I'd recommend using a decent filter like a Mr Funnel anyway when transferring fuel from any container.

Is it possible...? (what car thread, sorry)

For comparison the Mk2 Octavia boot capacities are 585 litres for the hatch and 605litres for the estate. Massive compared to a Golf or Clio.

Brands Hatch rogue driver Jack Cottle jailed for eight months

You are massively underestimating the risk and danger. The competitors will not be expecting a slow moving car on the track, and its surprisingly likely that a car unsighted and tucked up behind another could pull out and collect him. I've spent much of my life at race circuits and a car going...
