Erm, in other news my Ventus that I paid RRP for just turned up today after approx 11 months :cool:

Same for me with an OC MSI 7870. Whole PC freezes with a weird loud sound loop - almost a buzzing. My PC is rock solid on all inc Crysis 2 and BF3 at 1900x1200 Ultra.

Looks like I had a bad stick of ram which I assume was causing the pc to freeze and also post only 4gb usable. I'm thinking of replacing it with 2x 4gb to sit alongside the 2x 2gbs that work - is that ok?

Just to finish off I've tested the card in another pc with the same results so am swapping it for one that works. Never had a DOA before but always a first time for everything I guess.

could be, could be the motherboard as I've the got the pain in the arse 8gb ram installed but only 4gb usable issue...I'm taking the PC into the repair shop tomorrow - step one try the 7870 in another pc, if I need to swap it obviously I will but even if it's DOA I'm still going to get them to...

my old card works fine albeit any graphics intensive games are freezing on me hence upgrading the card - tomorrow I can try with another pc and the card may be borked I guess that's what I'm trying to find out.

I have done all of that previously bar remove the device from device manager - is that likely to make a difference?

I believe so - it takes 2x 6pin PCIe power cables - although it does specify 75w and I have no way of telling unless that is the standard for a PCIe cable:confused:
