I would imagine your 2600k is the biggest bottleneck right now. Even if you're getting good average framerates, I imagine the "smoothness"/0.1% lows are relatively horrible. My gaming experience improved significantly moving from a 4770k to a 2700x so a 5600(non-x when released) would be a great...
Well Dave, it might surprise you to know that since the 1080TI was released, a whole bunch of games have been released. And even more surprisingly, a lot make use of more than 4 threads.
Wanna know what's even crazier? In 2017 when the 1080TI was released, the CPUs it was reviewed on were...
Whilst how much stutter you're willing to accept or even notice may be a personal subjective thing, and a certain level of stutter might be "fine" for you, the fact is that stuttering in and of itself is not a subjective thing. It is very objective. Evidenced and measured by spikes in...
Yeah, "utter tosh". Not like I literally upgraded my 4670k @ 4.6ghz for that exact reason.
When was the last time you played any new AAA game on a 4c4t? Go try and and play Battlefield V multiplayer, AC:O, Tomb Raider etc and then come back and tell me about the "utter tosh". Stuttery. Mess.
The 1080TI will make your max FPS higher, but gaming will still be a stuttery mess on the 4690k. I'd rather have the lower max fps the 980TI provides and an upgraded CPU/Mobo/Ram set up to facilitate smooth gameplay first.
That said, £300 for a 1080TI is a decent price. But you'll likely be...
On B450? I'd only really trust the MSI B450 Pro Gaming Carbon.
The B450 Tomahawk is a close second, but the heatsink on that is slightly smaller than the Pro Gaming Carbon so if you want to overclock the 3900x then I'd rather have the larger VRM heatsink.
Quick Q, but why would you say a X570 is a must for you on a 3700x? The only real advantage it offers is PCIE 4.0.
In terms of power delivery and stability, a top end B450 (say a MSI Gaming Carbon Pro AC) has the VRM and heatsink to handle even a 3900x, and makes more sense than an X570 unless...
Here is the core scaling of The Division 2. The fastest on there, the i7-6850k @ 8c16t, is slower than the 8700k in gaming. The 3600 matches the 8700k in the Division 2. Granted this is 1080p not 1440p like your monitor, and it's a 2080ti and not a 1080ti, so reduce the difference. But as you...
Someone on Reddit did a meta-analysis of all the major benchmarkers (9 benchmarkers, 420 individual benchmarks) and came to the conclusion that the 3700x is ~15% faster than the 2700x in gaming on average.
Tbf, AMD can and will do exactly the same if and when they achieve a market position like Intel.
Don't have any loyalty or disloyalty to a corporation. They pretty much all behave unethically when they are listed because their entire job is to maximise returns for it's shareholders. One way or...
Not sure if you made your purchase yet or not, but the MSI boards (Tomahawk and Gaming Pro Carbon B450s) seem to be having real trouble with the BIOS that lets them update to using 3000 series chips.
I'm sure MSI will release a fixed BIOS by next week but perhaps hold off on the purchase until...
I've also read that 16gb is the highest USB size for flashing BIOS, but I'm not sure why.
I also remember that one of the steps was to rename the BIOS to MSI.ROM but I'm not sure if that applies in this case.
Also, could be that you have to update the BIOS to an intermediary BIOS first, before...
It's actually very easy and super simple (on the assumption that 1. the bios is available and 2. the new bios isn't faulty, which seems to be going around with the Ryzen 3000 as of right now).

This 2 min video outlines the entire process.
It is...
Dunno why he's being an arse about it but he makes somewhat of a point.
If you're debating between a 2600 or a 2600x, then you have to throw the 3600 into the fold because the £30 between a 2600 and 2600x is of less value than the £30 between a 2600x and the 3600.
Either get a 2600 or a 3600.
Well that's a bit BS don't you think?
The entire advantage of AM4 is being able to recycle or buy an old AM4 mobo. As long as you buy a board with sufficient VRM cooling and power delivery (and for the 3600/x that will pretty much include any B350 and upwards board) then you can use that. A...
The guy from Techyescity (YouTube) is at Computex and he posted pics of the motherboard guys benchmarking ES of the 16c running @ 4.1ghz. So I'm guessing AMD haven't got them quite where they want them yet, or are holding them back to pre-empt an Intel 12-core release.
That's a fair point, being £50 on top of a 1:1 $:£ conversion would certainly take the shine off of things, but if it stays at or close to 1:1 $:£ then I think they'll fly off the shelves.
