Difficult as even 2nd Hand cards can be expensive!
What are you currently running?
I would agree with Humbug that if you can get a 6600 in your price range it should do the job you are looking for .
Would agree that with a budget of £250-£450 top end would be 7800xt and budget 6800.
Overall , if you can wait and save another £100 , I would go for the 7900gre
I would agree with 555BUK 's suggestion. (although I do believe that nvidia prices are exorbitant it appears that they hold their value better and have better extras eg.DLSS)
Sorry about your problems BUT do not start fixing yourself - it will void your warranty! (you might be lucky but why take the risk!)
It may mean a week or so until you have a working replacement but worth it.:)
Tempted by one of these!
Currently running air cooled 5900x with Arctic MX 6 But was thinking of changing paste to sheet next time of clean up (done once a yr or so) - Am not looking foward to battling with removing the cpu and a sheet will, I hope, minimize the problem of the cpu sticking to...
Realised a year or so ago that nvidia had priced themselves out of my market so went 2nd hand (3080) .That did not go well so decided to try AMD (6800xt) .
I do not wish to push my luck BUT have to say that the 6800xt has been good so far . I do not see a situation where I would be going back...
Good to hear that your perseverance paid although a little dissapointing (probably) that it seems pretty clear that you need to upgrade m-board,cpu etc.
Just goes to show that it is best to ignore opinions expressed by people like me !!:o
Keep us informed.
If using an amd gpu - have a look at your adrenalin software.
Google 'undervolt' and the name of your gpu
