VRR flicker tested, is there an OLED that doesn't have it? Do IPS and VA have it? Does vesa Adaptive Sync prevent it?

Would like to see the aw3423dw in that list as some people told me that the dw had less flicker than the dwf due to the gsync module

2024 OLED bonanza take your pick from dozens of new monitors

I don't think it allows bfi with vrr. The part on the article that shows vrr is a menu option. You can choose vrr or bfi. Also it says that the bfi is limited to 120hz, which is already available on other oled screens. The advantage with the bfi on this screen is that you can change the black...

    Quest 3 owners etc

Sounds good, ill look into it. Received my front panel USB and found I can now play and trickle charge at the same time. The USB header is rated for 27/60w. The 60 only available if I connect a 6 pin power. May try later and see if it charges quicker whilst tethered.

    Quest 3 owners etc

Just picked up a Quest 3 yesterday. Had a cv1, then an S. Really happy with the upgrade and the wireless is great. Battery life could be a lot better. Think I got 2hrs untethered. Using wired this extended to 6hrs. I have a USB c front panel coming tomorrow which I can hook up to a 60w pd USB...

"The human eye can't see over 24fps" - Let this myth die, whilst new science reveals some people can identify high framerates

Gemini man was 120fps at the cinema. My impression of hfr movies is it makes it easier to see it is just actors on a set. Its more obvious it is a set, and the acting isn't as believable. The high frame rate is closer to real life, and makes it much easier to see the imperfections.

"The human eye can't see over 24fps" - Let this myth die, whilst new science reveals some people can identify high framerates

The 24fps thing is the number claimed that people will see moving images instead of a fast slide show. All this talk has me reminiscing of the crt motion clarity. I'm still chasing it and am intrigued to try out the new 480hz 1080p oled mode coming later this year. Obviously overall oled is...

    Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

Something is definitely up there. The fps jumping around would definitely cause the flicker. On my aw3423dw I had an issue where it wouldn't play correct with vrr in games and fps wouldn't be stable (but not quite as bad as yours) . I could get rid of it by changing my resolution down and then...

    Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

Watching your video, I see your fps bouncing around a lot with a wide range. Seeing it bounce between 90-200. That is a recipe for this flicker. The same settings on your c1 would have a lot less flicker as the upper range would be 120. So the bouncing frame rate would be 90-120 not 90-200. Out...

    Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

I have found vrr flicker in Windows. It was caused by a couple of apps I had installed. Razer synapse when open causing vrr flicker in windows + I had a program called fancontrol which also triggered it. But again, it is setup reliant, as when I changed motherboard the fancontrol stopped...

    Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

This is what LG released in a statement to the cause: "Gamma for OLED is optimised and fixed for 120 Hz by establishing a fixed charging time for OLED sub-pixels. VRR is used when the frame rate is less than 120 Hz. When the OLED TV uses framerates less than 120 Hz, the gamma curve is...

    Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

When the vrr gamma shift that manifests in flickering was first reported to LG, they confirmed it to be inherent to Oled. They all have the issue. However, different hardware setups will experience it in different games due to it being directly linked to erratic framerates and frame drops. Eg In...

    Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

The flicker is usually worse the more erratic the framerate. I guess with a higher ceiling, the flicker will be easier to spot on 4k 240hz screen. A frame rate quickly bouncing between 100-120 on a 120hz screen will be less noticeable than 100-160 on the 240hz screen. I had a nightmare start...

World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

I tend to agree. Great for multimedia and I have no concern there, but for a setup as you describe, definitely not. I also think that is why Dell seemed to have changed their burn in warranty to 1 replacement. I don't think I would buy a 2nd hand oled, and presuming after a couple of years the...

Has RTX Changed The Way We Game?

For me, Rtx is a positive package but no where near game changing. I'm getting on now, but I'd rate 3dfx, the jumps between some of the earlier dx's, 3d vision, and more recently vr much higher. Ray tracing is a nice feature and I'm happy about the innovation as it had been a little stagnant for...

    Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

You may have an app that is triggering the flicker on desktop. I have found 2 apps that cause the flicker for me: fancontrol and Razer synapse. Luckily the flicker is only there if I have either open. Maybe worth trying to close programs one at a time and see if you can identify the culprit.

    Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

It's oled specific. How much you see it also depends on your setup and how well it keeps steady frame pacing. This is why it manifests in some games and not others + why some people have it in a game and others say it doesn't flicker for them, this is likely due to the 2nd persons machine...

World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

Replacement arrived today. Brand new, so I am pleased. Not going to use it for work anymore though :D got to add how quick the turn around was. Reported yesterday lunch time and new monitor at 1330 next day.

World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

I'm actually a little intrigued around OLED sell on value. I'm already hoping I don't get a refurb as I would be concerned that it had already clocked potential burn in mileage that isn't quite visible yet. Just got a shipped notification for the replacement part. The rep on the phone said I...

World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

Yes I did. Autohide taskbar and I naturally have low brightness. It's mainly because I use it 8hrs per day for work, and I am constantly in and out the taskbar. Going to go back to the ips for work. For my own mixed usage I've not seen burn in for 8 yrs, so OLED is still for me, just now know it...

World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

My screen got burn in, the taskbar. Just got off the phone to Dell who reviewed my pictures and agreed to replace. However, they warned me that they now only replace for image retention once and if it happens again they won't replace it. Said I need to avoid static images.
