    Valve announces the SteamDeck

I use the Deck as my primary PC these days because it's so quiet. I don't use desktop mode as it's a bit too restrictive for my use case, unless I disable read-only which I don't want to do. Instead, I upgraded the SSD to a 2TB and have it as a tri-boot (SteamOS, Windows 11, Arch Linux). I'm...

    Meal Deal rip-offs...

Yes, you never know. I tend to make a lot of the food myself from ingredients that may have been messed with. Fruit and veg I always thoroughly wash so there's less risk, but I can't exactly wash bread for example. I've seen the amount of laughing and joking that goes on in the back of places...

    Meal Deal rip-offs...

No, I don't like it at all. Who knows where the person has had their fingers whilst making your sandwich. Same with fast food places. There's a higher than normal chance that a low paid spotty teen who hates their job has spat in your burger, or farted on the bread bun.

What are you listening to, GD?

I've listened to it several time quite recently, but since you've mentioned it, when you really listen to the lyrics I agree with you. Also i'm sure there is a version with different lyrics. Instead of "she said I get it every night", it's "he _____ me every night". Not the radio version I take...

Is Mint still the best user-friendly desktop?

I chop and change very frequently, but still prefer Arch (or Arch based distros) and KDE Plasma. I still usually use a window tiling manager such as dwm rather than Plasma though when coding.

What the hell is going on in this country regarding dentistry?

If you can't get an NHS dentist, you could consider having the work done abroad. It can often be much cheaper to have work done privately abroad depending on where you go, get a better service, and can have the majority of work all carried out within a day or 2 tops. Whether it's worth paying...

    Valve announces the SteamDeck

I bought a 2TB 2230 for my deck around 12 weeks ago from AliExpress for around £130. It's the WD SN740. It's much faster than the 256GB SSD my deck shipped with, not that it really matters. It's perfectly legit - serial number checks out and I've used various pieces of software to verify...

    Valve announces the SteamDeck

Nope, nothing to do with that. It's exactly the same situation with stock destined for Ireland who are in the EU. Anyway, the 64GB used to be easy to buy in the UK and Ireland. The only conclusion I can come to is that the 512GB is a big seller in the UK and Ireland, freeing up stock of the 64GB...

    Valve announces the SteamDeck

The 64GB and 256GB are both available in the EU and US and have been for months. So I doubt they've been discontinued. This seems to be a UK thing for some reason where the cheaper models only become available for very short periods of time before selling out.

What retro things have you done today?

I haven't unfortunately. Is it an adaptor of some sort which provides RGB output via a scart and connects to the pi's header pins? To be honest, this project for me was just a bit of a time waster given I already had the pi 3 sitting doing nothing and was bored. I have plenty of ways to play...

What retro things have you done today?

I had a spare Raspberry Pi 3B hanging around so what better than to create a little retropie setup specifically for a CRT? This will do until I get a Mister FPGA setup You can download an already made image, although it's around 2 or 3 years old so I installed the latest retropie image (that is...

    Best Retro Handheld

There's already quite a few reports from people that part of the hinge on the Retroid Pocket Flip is already starting to crack. I don't know whether this is generally down to the users being heavy handed with their devices or if there's a manufacturing flaw. Either way though, I can't see the...

    Best Retro Handheld

Personal preference, but I'd say not really. The vita's CPU isn't very strong and input latency is an issue. You can apply runahead in retroarch on many of the newer devices such as the Retroid Pocket Flip which makes inputs pretty instant and just like playing the 8 and 16 bit consoles on a...

    Best Retro Handheld

It's best to spend a little bit of money on a handheld. The cheaper models work, but if you're looking to reduce latency and input lag, you'll want to use the runahead feature in retroarch. That requires a little bit more grunt. Personally, I wouldn't spend less than £100. The Retroid Pocket 3+...
