I just got the logs in B&Q, just make sure they've been stored indoors and are dry. Burn really well and hot but make sure you get the hardwood ones not softwood.

Yup, it's the JJS fireguard I use and its great. The cost of using just kiln dried logs offsets the £25 cost of the fireguard quickly enough. It definitely helps shape the flames wider as well as holding back all the fire.

Let us know how it goes. I've trialled many combinations but find the plain pizza express pasatta the best in terms of consistency and tartness/bite/bitterness.
Even if you use white cement (snowcrete) you will not get properly white concrete/render due to the sand content. It'll end a pinky colour at best. If you want a proper white finish either pay for a proper white render (k rend or monocouche) or tile the walls with slabs or tiles.
