Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart RDNA 2 Ray Tracing

Right, but the ultimate point is about business. The technology enables new produces/experiences/markets. The "edge" that consoles have is their hardware allows for awesome experiences that can't be had anywhere else for anywhere near the cost. If they massively fall behind in technology they...

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart RDNA 2 Ray Tracing

It's all relative to the pace of technology. Just because the new consoles are in a very good position relative to PCs at the start doesn't mean they won't be trash in 8+ years. Because the EUV laser is finally up and running, node progress will get back on track. And we're also entering an...

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart RDNA 2 Ray Tracing

Yeah, I touched on that in the same post. Although this is true, it's (sadly) irrelevant in terms of devs making games. Ratchet and Clank would've been possible on PC with Zen2/Intel-8000 series (8700k would be enough vs 8c/16t Zen2) plus Turing. So could've been done in 2018. But it wasn't...

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart RDNA 2 Ray Tracing

Regardless of the nitpicky arguments you could have, I think Ratchet and Clank is a very promising showing for what these consoles can do, and indicates it'll be a while before PCs will be "held back" this time around. It's clear they can do RT competently enough, but the whole package of the...

ARCHIVE - *** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION *** - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION

Little jealous of people who managed to order the Asus TUF for £649. Mine just said "available soon" the whole time until it appeared for £698.99 later. Hopefully managed to nab the Gigabyte Eagle OC for £649, but my order is also at the "awaiting payment status stage". The Asus TUF seems to...

ARCHIVE - *** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 SERIES STOCK SITUATION *** - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION

@Gibbo Do you have a date/time for the Asus TUF non-OC? Seems like it's only the OC you have for launch day.

Vega refresh in 2018, current Vega is broken!

Mmm, and even if they went for low-cost HBM for savings they could still do 16GB with 800 GB/s bandwidth (4 stacks). And on 7nm+EUV you could fit 6 Zen cores plus 4500-5000 Polaris cores all into less than 300mm2. So unless Zen2/3 and Navi increase die size per core substantially, or MS and...

Vega refresh in 2018, current Vega is broken!

I imagine they're going to wait for late 2019-2020. Both companies have barely brought out their 'Pro' consoles, and late 2019- would allow them to use the refined 7nm+EUV process, plus use HBM3 (or the cheap-HBM variant), plus potentially even get Zen3 and Navi's successor, instead of a...

    Titan V announced £2700 15TF 12nm Volta

I believe Samsung have said they plan to have it available by the end of 2019. And it basically doubles everything. Max configuration is 64GB 4-stacks at 2.05 TB/s bandwidth (4096-bit 4000 MHz effective clockrate) It'll also be interesting to see how cost stacks up in the mid-high end. If you...

    Titan V announced £2700 15TF 12nm Volta

Going off recent/medium history, the 2080 Ti (or 1180 Ti, whichever) will have the same FP32 cores, but the FP64 and Tensor cores stripped out. If Nvidia's block diagrams are to scale then each type of core takes up 1/3 of the space assigned to all the cores. i.e. getting rid of the FP64 and...

    Volta max 25% increase?

Depends what you mean. The 1080 Ti to Volta non-Ti (i.e. the 1080 replacement) will likely be ~25-30% faster than the 1080 Ti. But the best Volta we see on 12nm, the Volta Titan and Volta-Ti, will likely be 60-70% faster. I highly doubt it, this would be historically unprecedented (other...

    Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

Seems pretty unlikely to be correct. We won't know for sure for a few more weeks, but the scaling doesn't really add up. It should be expected to be in the ballpark of 50-55% faster than a 6700k in multi-threaded tasks. So in-between an i7 5960x and an R7 1700. If it does turn out to use the...

RX 580 OR VEGA 56 For Ultra wide 1080p at current Prices

To echo what others have said, get Vega56. But DEFINITELY wait for the aftermarket cards. I'm not sure if it's known exactly when these are coming, but the stock cooler is complete garbage. So don't buy a stock card unless you're going to mod it with a watercooler.

And just think, that's with clearly no optimisation as not even SMT works! Remembering as well that AMD's SMT gives a larger gain than Intel's.

** TPCAST WIRELESS ADAPTER FOR HTC VIVE VR HEADSET - PRE-ORDER LIVE **

If you're worried about value for money the Windows Mixed Reality headsets are coming very soon. They're slightly higher resolution than the Vive and Rift at 1440x1440 per eye vs 1080x1200 per eye. They'll be £300-350 without VR motion controllers, or £400-450 with controllers. You can choose...

    Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

Yes but it might be crossing CCX boundaries a lot, like how the windows scheduler treated Ryzen wrong at launch. And/or just not be optimised at all for Ryzen's specific pipeline. By the nature of you saying that, you know there's something wrong (that the devs have/haven't done). If a program...

    Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

100% yes, just will take optimisation by the devs. Ryzen is already very close to the 7700k in scenario's where it's been optimised. And kills it when it's optimised + uses 6+ cores. And the reason I say 100% is because Intel's HEDT has the same issue, which automatically means Intel will push...

    Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

Yeah the latency is mildly too high on Zen1 by the looks of things. Though interestingly Skylake-X is around the same, but for ANY core to ANY core, rather than in sets of 4 that can talk at low-latency, and only slowly if it crosses to another set of 4. As it's tied to DDR speed, and also...

    Intel to launch 6 core Coffee Lake-S CPUs & Z370 chipset 5 October 2017

So this video shows the problem: https://youtu.be/EtB3uirEhbY Basically there's been no Ryzen optimisation, and the SMT isn't working (and likely other problems if that's not even working). So it's stuck around 125 CPU FPS average as the max. So if your card is capable of higher than that...
