The Sandy, Ivy and Haswell (Hazzy?) Upgrade Thread

Moving my long in the tooth 3570K to a Ryzen 3600 later this week, along with doubling the RAM to 16GB DDR4-3600 and grabbing an NVMe boot drive. A lot more affordable than it might have been due to some help from my friends, which means I also have my eyes on a GPU (though I wish RTX wasn't...

Replacement Gas Lift For Vertagear SL-2000

I picked up the Vertagear SL-2000 late last year and its height has always bothered me. I'm not too tall (only approx. 6'), but it still feels very low and far shorter than the assembly videos indicated it should be. I've now finally got fed up and am looking to replace the gas lift with a...

Great competition. Early congratulations to whoever is currently on holiday somewhere volcanic :D

    Vengeance K70 Alternative?

There are two reasons that mechanical keyboards are often seen as noisy: they might have clicky key types such as the Cherry MX Blues, or you may be striking the keys hard enough that they make a noise as the switch is fully pressed. To address the former you can often pick up the same...

**COMPETITION** Plantronics RIG Universal Stereo Gaming Headset

    1. The removable mic. Who the heck needs it when I'm smashing faces solo? 2. The ear cushion design. Had more than my fair share of grotty uncomfortable headsets that wore blisters into my ears due to poor design. 3. 40mm drivers which should be capable of decent base. Great competition guys!

A few questions for Roccat Kone Pure owners

I've been lucky enough to use both Kone Pure and Pure Optical mice. Although I haven't noticed any specific issues with the laser sensor on the Kone Pure, as H2F Scott said they are known to have hardware acceleration. Given a price-agnostic choice it's therefore probably best to go for the...

    *** AMD Radeon R9 290X Reviews Thread ***

W3bbo's take on it at Vortez: http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/amd_radeon_r9_290x_review,1.html Sounds like it has potential, but the reference cooler just doesn't cut the mustard. Not good enough at £450, but looking forward to seeing the potential of the R9 290.

    Roccat "shift +" alternatives?

From what I recall Logitech have always struggled with their software, so getting those sorts of synergies going at a software level probably seems very daunting. Razer *could* do it if they wanted to, but they're more concerned with selling the brand than providing features to consumers. The...

    Roccat "shift +" alternatives?

I don't know if any other manufacturers do, but given that SteelSeries appear to be moving to a unified software suite for their peripherals I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest to see them offer similar functionality in the future.

    Wireless mouse with charging dock.

No idea how it's going to stack up to the Ouroboros in price but Gigabyte are also planning to release the Uranium soon, which has a charging wire rather than fully fledged docking station. http://www.gigabyte.com/press-center/news-page.aspx?nid=1216

New STEELSERIES APEX vs Razer DeathStalker

I think it'd very much depend on whether you prefer chicklet-style keys over the low-profile membrane style of the Apex[RAW]. Undoubtedly the Apex[RAW] is getting good reviews (only one website off the top of my head has published a broadly critical review), and looks very good for the money...

    Zowie mouse guide

Regarding the shape of the FK, the \/ shape actually refers to the sides of the mouse. The FK tapers inwards from the top to the bottom for a \_/ cross-section, making lifting it with your thumb and ring-finger much easier. Mice with the opposite cross-section require a tighter grip to...

    Need new peripherals.

Yep, on all Cherry switches a keypress registers half way down the stroke; there's no need to push it all the way down. :) I guess that if you're sure you wouldn't need the additional keys on the K95 then the K70 would be perfect. It's still a little pricey in my book, but nothing out there...

    Need new peripherals.

Yep, that's a pretty good way of summing up Browns. MX Blue have a very audible click to them, whereas with Browns you can feel the actuation point (hence why they're called 'tactile') but they won't click. They require the same amount of force as Reds to push, but Reds don't have the tactile...

    Illuminated (quiet) keyboard

If you want a more exotic (and obviously pricey) suggestion, you could try a mechanical keyboard and fit rubber o-rings around the switch to dampen the noise. Should have a nice linear response without the unpleasant knocks into the backplate.

    Need new peripherals.

I've used the M65 and quite liked it for FPS games, less so for MMOs (though still better than many lesser mice). Fairly soft main buttons and relatively heavy thanks to the aluminium base; shoulder buttons aren't fantastic but are at least solid. Build quality seems great. The K60 isn't...

Review on Vortez: http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/nvidia_gtx_780_review.html Have a feeling that a summary over all reviews will come down to price rather than performance. Good it see it overclocking well though.
