When are you going fully electric?

No, I was trying to make the point that people like me, who would like switch to EV's, find it frustrating that they can't access the same kind of deals to make it affordable as others can. My company doesn't offer any kind of salary sacrifice schemes, I'm certainly not entitled to a company...

When are you going fully electric?

Can't afford to buy one either, but I take your point.

When are you going fully electric?

You didn't. You told me fuel is expensive as if I hadn't taken it in to account when comparing ownership costs.

When are you going fully electric?

I'm not trying to be an arse or anything, I've been looking at deals on EV's, especially with the kind of cars coming to market right now, and with our payrise this year, I've been looking to see if I can make the switch. I just simply can't justify the cost. While.i know there's cheaper stuff...

When are you going fully electric?

What's your point. My fuel costs pay for the Tesla for 4 months? So what do I do the other 8 months? Do you even understand how people on modest incomes live?? Convincing people they will save money by buying something they can't afford won't make them suddenly able to afford the thing that...

When are you going fully electric?

4 years of £500 a month is £24k, plus around £3k initial rental. I'm thinking the 6 year old diesel is still coming in under budget.

When are you going fully electric?

OK, so what's a actually figure in £'s on that?? For me to lease a standard M3 with a 15,000 mile deal, I'm gonna looking at north of £500 a month, not including finding the money for the initial payment. That's more than my mortgage, and 2.5 times my monthly motoring costs right now, and when...

When are you going fully electric?

Thing is, your average PC user doesn't face punitive taxation and road charging for having a previous generation GPU. The government doesn't tax the poor to give tax breaks to the wealthy to buy a new GPU. The current system reminds me of the solar panel craze a few years ago. The cash rich...

The WTD for drivers is a different set of rules. We can reduce the 11 hours rest to 9 hours 3 times a week, or every shift if we take an unbroken 3 hour break during our shift. Breaks and POA(periods of availability) do not count towards the Working Time Directive, hence you can legally be on...

Oh yeah, those BG or RO flagged trucks in the UK, they don't earn the minimum wage of the country they are working in, they earn Bulgarian or Romanian wages. Maybe less in a month than I get in a week. The way they are treated is disgusting and the fact the EU encourages it is a disgrace.

Don't forget you can reduce to 9 hours every day if you have an unbroken break of 3 hours during your shift. So 15 hours a day, for 6 days max, with as little as 9 hours a day off duty. It's possible to work for 90 hours in a week and be legal. As for driving, depending what days you work you...

No one was kicked out. Low wages hurt immigrant workers as well. Why do racists like you expect them to work for pennies for your own benefit? My place has had to suspend all CPC training, and any other training for that matter because they can't spare the drivers. We are only coping through...

Look up the employee reviews of Hoyer. Its no surprise they have vacancies. Rubbish employer. The driver shortage is world wide. Look at any recent headlines from North America, Ireland, Belgium, Germany etc. Its the same story all over, poor wages, poor conditions, lack of decent facilities...

Staff at Stanlow are debating whether to take industrial action due to wages, bonus payments and pension. Given tankers were always considered one of top jobs in trucking, it's amazing companies like this lot and Hoyer at BP have so many upset workers.

Off topic and employment issues aside, I think its a terrifying prospect. Imagine our government(or even worse Australia) with the ability to so easily turn off all personal transport, or enable it only for certain locations. Don't tell me they wouldn't have done it for the first lockdown.

There have been schemes for years to assist in training. Many companies offer direct access from other roles into driving. Some companies will take you on and train you directly. *looks around* Nope, still not enough interested to fill the shortage.

Will be interesting to revisit this in a few years. Long term your right, I just don't think its happening as fast as you think. *bookmarks thread*
