    Upgrading from old x58 build

Thanks very much all for the advice. I've decided to go Ryzen 7 1700 as I like the idea of having something a bit fresher over Xeon. Born2BSlow thank you for the Xeon offer, good like finding someone for the second chip. I'm now thinking B350 chipset - I don't plan on dual GPU and I can add my...

    Upgrading from old x58 build

Yeah, I think most things would be an upgrade given the ago of the 920 :) Thanks for the offer. I'll read up on Xeons tomorrow. I'm leaning more towards Ryzen at the moment though, just quite like the idea of starting (relatively) fresh.

    Upgrading from old x58 build

I considered that two years back but decided against it, I think there were potential issues with my motherboard's BIOS (GA-X58-UD5 Rev 1.0) not being able to recognise Xeon. Edit: Having said that good old Google has returned this. Any ideas what Xeon performance is like relative to more...

    Upgrading from old x58 build

Hi Friends, It's been too long since I was last on here and even longer since my last PC upgrade. Sadly it's time for my trusty old i7 920 to be retired. I've decided I'd like to upgrade and potentially give VR a shot. The main use of the PC will be for gaming. I'm currently thinking Ryzen 7...

This Week Only 29/02/2012 - Special offers on a big range of products

I can honestly say they are. I have a superhub and the signal only just reaches the floor above. Plugged in a £25 netgear G router into it with the superhub on "modem only mode" signal reaches me three floors up. I have it all wired now though, but the wireless signal for the superhub really is...

    What PSU

As Stulid says, don't go for cheaper brands of PSU, not a good idea. If need be drop the wattage but stick to a solid make (i.e. get this) and you'll be fine for the time being, but you will lose some scope for overclocks and future upgrades. Edit: I admit that doesn't save you much. But a...

1 HOUR ONLY GIGABYTE X58 G! SNIPER £179.99 inc VAT

If you'd made it an evening only deal you'd have sold two more. My mobo has two dead RAM slots and my housemate bought an x58 prebuilt system from a competitor which only has four RAM slots, requires noisy fans on each of the heatsinks and simply fails at the thought Overclocking.

    I7 950 2 Sandybridge

A quick google search came up with this. "Wow....my RAM useage has gone through the roof w/ LR3. I just checked my CPU meter and I was at 79% constant RAM use, with peaks in the mid 80s. Never saw that number over 40% before. I have 8gb now, looks like it is time for more!" Obviously take this...

    I7 950 2 Sandybridge

In gaming the main difference is the GPU, an i7 @ 4GHz isn't going to be a bottle neck so I doubt you'd see much (if any) change there. Looking up the specs for Photoshop lightroom they seem to be a Pentium 4 & 2GB of RAM(? correct me if I'm wrong.) In which case I also doubt you'll see any...

    I7 950 2 Sandybridge

I'm not making any excuses buddy. Just my honest opinion, you can disagree, that's your opinion. Doesn't matter. I tried to help by putting forward my experiences and views, that is all. Many can OC SB easilly. There will also be a few who found it tricky and ended up having issues as a...

    I7 950 2 Sandybridge

Was just thinking that he obviously knows how to OC on x58 but that doesn't mean he knows anything about OCing SB. Yes it is easier in theory, but that's always dependent on past knowledge :) I personally still find OCing x58 easier than the SB given that I've OC'd about six x58 and only two SB...

    Thermal Paste

    1) No you don't need to put any more on. Just pop it in and go. 2) Yes there is a difference between third party paste and the stock one. Maybe as much as 10'C given the right chip and cooler if you go for the top end stuff. But unless you're into OCing then it really isn't worth it. Upgrading...

    I7 950 2 Sandybridge

Would you be willing to put the time in to OC the SandyBridge? At 4GHz & 12GB an X58 build does take some beating. It Also depends on the RAM you're going to put with the SB, if you fall back to 8GB then you might even end up going backward depending on how reliant photoshop is on RAM (I'm not...

Something big is coming - XSPC Chassis!

Agreed, it's hard to tell it's even in the case! I couldn't even see a notable shot of the cube... for all I know it could have been filmed with the hardware standing on cardboard boxes :S

Something big is coming - XSPC Chassis!

Does the H1 support two motherboards? Know it sounds kinda odd but MM did one a bit like that which held 2 motherboards and up to 4 PSU... not entierly sure why... but who am I to question madness?
