Truck is parked at roadside to unload.
Truck driver spots mate walking down the street and beeps horn to get his attention.
Bloke is walking down the street with two kids (estimate girl of 6/7, boy of 3/4)
Bloke steps out into the road to talk to driver through the cab window.
Traffic lights further down the street turn green.
Little girl stops by the front of the truck and watches her dad talking.
Little boy thinks they are crossing the road and carries on walking out into the traffic.
....
He's alive, no visable damage, he's in A&E by now.

It's not always that great having cameras covering the street. :(

I witnessed my friend at school getting hit at around 25mph, rolled onto the bonnet and windscreen . We were gobsmacked, and even more gobsmacked that he got up 10 seconds later, and the only thing wrong with him was a couple of scratchs.

I saw a kid get hit once, knocked him right down the road. He didn't get up though.

Sounds like a) bad parenting, and b) a lack of education about the roads.

When I was a kid it was drummed into me to not do things like that.

Still, poor kid :(

I had to save a young girls life once from a similar situation. The mum was on one side of the road near the car, and the dad and the child were just coming out the house. Anyway, the scabby horrible mother starts calling to her daughter to come to her, even though its across a very busy road. She starts to cross, so I ran after her and had to pick her up in the middle of the road then carry her to the other side again as she, and myself, were nearly hit by cars. Needless to say I gave the parents a right good shouting at lol.

Once i saw a little kid running infront of his parent not willing to stop for the road. I picked him up and held him up. I think first his parents thought i tried to snatch him but soon realised is topped him running on a very busy street.

To the OP, hope the kids OK..

I was Going home friday just after 3pm, driving by a school, there are loads of parked cars so I slowed to 20 (it's a 30 limit), dawdling along, and suddenly this girl (5-8 yrs?) just ran accross the road infront of me, I jammed on, and stopped just a foot or so in front of her.
Her mother gave me the biggest filthy look I've ever seen, It was so close I literally just sat there for a few seconds totally dumb before just driving off in complete shock.. had I been doing 30 I'd have hit her..

Without knowing the people, that's very harsh, at 3 or 4 (the age of the boy) it's all too easy for emotions to take over and they just 'forget' everything.. I have 2 kids (2 and 4) and as much as I try and educate them on the dangers of the road, and keep teaching them how to cross the road, I still have to reign them back at times due to this.. I don't know at what age this type of thing 'sticks'.. but from my experience it's not as young as 3..

[edit].. err.. looking at the Photos further down.. I agree with you, he clearly is not supervising the young boy in the slightest.. what a dumb ass..

Absolutely, expecting a 3 year old to fully understand and stick to the Green Cross code next to a busy main road is just daft, however good their parents may be. However, this is exactly why you shouldn't leave them unattended next to such a road!

When they're that size and you're walking by the road you know you're hold their hand correctly if you cut off the circulation in their fingers

I'd call bad judgement, you don't walk into the road without warning the kids.

I've got more if you want to show your little ones what happens if they don't hold your hand.

Oh my days... that CCTV footage is just shocking... How could he not even hold their hands or tell them to wait on the pavement!?

Moving. As chance would have it, the white van is a passenger ambulance.

Kid was hit from the right by a fiesta in the next frame.

Seems very irresponsible to me. I haven't got kids so I'm not really qualified to say, but anywhere near a road I can safely say I'd be holding their hands and telling them to look right/left etc.

Well I was giving him the benefit of the doubt before the photo's, but that is just so irresponsible!..
