Is Coretemp really the only accurate temp measurement tool we have?? Only Coretemp is much higher than Speedfan or RealTemp. I know this question is Sooooooooooooo old now but I am in two minds about bothering with water cooling. Coretemp says my stock Q6600 is @ 55c the others say 40c My HSF is a thermaltake Ultra 120 lapped with two Noctua 120s on it and AS5. What do I believe???

Thanks

Hi, Thanks for helping.

At idle.....

I thought I had two fans on the HS??? TT Ultra 120 Extreme Lapped.

Does the northbridge heatsink stop the Ultra 120 being installed in the other direction? And is the fan blowing or sucking air through the heatsink?

Yes it does stop the HSF from being installed in the conventional way. If there is something I change swap out on the NB I would if rotating the HSF would make a good difference.

It probably wouldn't make all that much difference.

Are both fans on the left of the heatsink blowing air towards the heatsink?

Move the fan on the heatsink to the other side if you can and have it blowing air through the heatsink.

Ok I have rotated the HSF 90°. Have no idea why I said I couldn't do that before. It just clears the NB HS. Anyway temps have changed by 1°c for the better. So if Coretemp is the only reliable measuring tool we have my idle Q600 is now at 47°c/48°c/48°c/48°c. This is terrible. Some of you have idles in the 20's. My room is actually heated during the day by the PC!!! Current room temp is 20.2°c Airflow temp from top of case is currently 27.1°c. 8800GTS 320 is at 71°c idle.

Oh mean't to add before CPU is currently at 1600MHz BIOS has dropped Multiplier to 6.

Anyone with ideas as to why my idle rig is a cooker?

Thanks

There is a fan at the back of the case sucking and one on the front side of the HSF blowing into the fins. As an experiment I removed the remaining 5 1/4" drive bay blanking covers. With the door of my P182 open temps are at 42 over all four cores. I guess I just have a hot running CPU. Is this feasible? I have cleaned off and reapplied the TIM to no avail.

Check temp in the BIOS ;). easy.

Maybe your mobo is overvolting ? check voltage, if its on auto, try putting it on VID or bit lower.

Mobo is at 57c CPU is at 40c according to bios. Everything is on auto except RAM which is on +0.3. VID is 1.325v
