Sapphire 4870

That looks good, was that using the auto tune?
How long delivery from the place you got yours :D

Deciding between Palit 4870 1gb Sonic and Sapphire 4870 1gb. Both have good cooler apart Palit using 2 fans and slight OC-ed already....

Decisions..... Decisions.....

Ordered on 5th Dec arrived 9th Dec. Quality service.

Yeah that clock was using the auto tune.

easily.

i went from just over 5k with my 7900gt to almost 15k

about to re-run it with the new clocks shown above. Just noticed it's now clocked higher than the Toxic version

new 3D Mark 06 score added. Clocked the card to 820 / 1000 as when running 840 / 1015 3D Mark06 froze.

new score 15625 compared to 14667 on stock

I too have just received my Sapphire 4870 1GB from OC, delivered to work, it too has the new fan / heatsink from the Toxic model, even though I ordered the standard edition. Whilst pleasantly surprised, I am also somewhat worried as this is destined to go inside an Antec Fusion HTPC case and I'm now worried about whether or not I'll get the lid back on the case due to the protruding heat pipes on the cooler. Seems the new card is approx 12cm high, I really hope it fits.........

Well there's only 1 way to find out! :D

Do you might taking a pic of the card? Specifically the side of it with the PCI-E connectors?

I managed to squeeze a sapphire 3870 ultimate edition in my antec fusion, not sure how deep they are but the heatpipes were raised above the pcb in a similar fashion.

The lid only just fits on, if it won't you could cut a slot in it :D

Yeah - just been Googling away re the Antec case clearance, seems there is a 15mm space above the fixing screws for the graphics card in the case, so fingers crossed this will be enough to house the Toxic cooler heat pipes. My only other worry is that the cooler shroud goes the full length of the card, which is bound to block some SATA ports on the motherboard, just hope I have at least 2 free for my Optical + hardrive connections! Motherboard is an Asus P5Q-EM Intel G45 Micro-ATX, running an Intel E6600 at 3Ghz. My old graphics card is a Sapphire 3850 512mb.
I'll try and take some pics tonight if I manage to get it all set up OK!

ave used te Ntune setting in CCC to clock the card. this is what results it gave.
is it safe clocking it this way

Yer i have a 4870 1gb version is it safe to overclock the card this way does it improve performance greatly??

Also does it knacker the card or any other componants?

i've been told it's safe but i had to drop my clock down to 820 / 1000 as at the clock shown 3d mark froze.

went from 14667 stock
to 15625 on clocked speeds

i got mine 1gb version yesterday, it too has the new HS, not sure if ill keep it on or replace it with my old thermalright hr-03 rev a (4 pipes)

Well, got home, whipped out the old 3850, compared it to the new 4870, new card is approx 5mm longer, fitted the new card into the Antec Fusion, fits OK, then.....disaster....whilst the top 6pin power connector fits in OK, the second lower connector does not have enough room to plug in the power plug as the case bar gets in the way! Undeterred, I broke out the trusty junior hacksaw, sawing through the offending case bar down to the cable hole and removing the top section above the hole to allow clearance for the power plugs. Now the card fits nice and snug, although the large card shroud covers 4 of the 6 SATA connectors on the motherboad. Still, card is in and temps seem OK at the moment, around 46c at idol. This is with the card overclocked to 830Mhz core and 960Mhz memory using CCC Overdrive. 4870 fan speed set manually to 40%. Just installing Crisis to have a play........
