***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

Yup mic check is pretty damn important in this game tbh! no idea how many mics we had on our side but I couldn't stay on til the end!

Well, last nights game is one of the funniest i've had for a while. The opposing team couldn't get further than a few meters into each map before being completely pwned by us which were (Defrag, Forgetful Fish, Steve! & Gord).

To their credit, no rage quits anywhere to be found - we did feel it necessary to rage suicide at the end to try and bring the scores closer together, something like 4000 - 140 !!! but I may be corrected. Everything just sort of clicked for us for that game, really helps too when everyone on the team has mics. :)

Sounds a bit like our game, except WE were on the losing side :(

I got close to RQing a couple of times, mainly due to me doing so badly as infected (missing easy pounces etc) rather than losing. I liked it when I ended up giving the enemy tank a runaround though in the finale, then three of us ended up surviving, then we took out the other team before the 1st tank even appeared. Twas a nice end :)

With regards to kicking, I'm an admin, but I have so far only kicked afkers, often because they have crashed. I would only ever kick players who treated others badly or crashed or afk really. I have yet to need to kick abusive players yet on these servers though, I rarely have that problem when I'm on.

Yeh link, was a bit dull yesterday with our team winning. On paper I thought it was going to be close but you had omgwtf and he is still fairly new, whereas we had everyone who has played together a few times already! (Sharpy, Kearney, etc).

Good times though and the end finale was really funny and made up for a lot of the earlier close calls. Mostly due to the fact that we were the second team.

I've been noticing recently that when I have to go first as survivor I always get the weaker team or player. This makes it double hard, especially as the next team up can rush through and know where tanks/witches are.

Also in these circumstances the second team who are usually doing better for whatever reason, get more mollies, pipes, kits etc. Quite frustrating, surely the game can see they are doing better and perhaps change the AI around that to make it a bit harder?

Well done on not RQ'ing, it's often worth staying until the end for the exact reason that you kicked our ass on that finale ;)

That was incredible, we truly were awful, or you truly were brilliant, one of the two. Probably a bit of both. I've never seen such a massive gap in ability in a vs game, it was like we were all controlling the mouse with our wrong hands.

Every time it seemed that you infected scrotes were arranging the perfect attack and carrying it out with perfect precision! I didn't even get slightly enraged in that game, I was just confused.:o

We played Del, Fish, Gord and that the night before last I think. Such a close game and we ended up winning by only a few hundred. All quality players playing and both teams obviouslly knew what they were doing and each others playing styles.

I think by sounds of the above they got put on same team again and you got with guys you aren't used too, no one stepped up to organise anything decent and you got served :)

Makes a huge difference if you go first or second and who has the weakest player out of the 8 on the server. Also no mics or not a lot of team talk = game over :)

Also, thought I'd go start some inter-forum/pc-console relations on the Xbox L4D thread:

Warning: Saturday 7th March, fragM Left4Dead Servers may be unavailable periodically

..because me/uvmain are having a lan party at my house and we may end up invading the servers en masse :)

If people want to join us, I'll probably also be setting up custom servers for various other games (UT2004 mods, UT3 for the free weekend, DotA, Urban Terror, Quake3/QuakeLive, etc). I may setup an IRC channel to get things organised..

Nice idea, but we won't be able to play them anyway, can we?

Nah we can't play against them, which is a shame. We can mock them for being console noobs tho, right? :p

Also, I don't wish to seem ungrateful, selfish or immature about the excellent free service I recieve but:

WTF?!?! :D

Below are the links to 4 new videos showcasing the new 'Survival Mode' which will be available with the free downloadable content release on PC and xbox 360. The videos show one of the survival maps from the Dead Air campaign, and the other three show action from the new lighthouse map.

Secondly IGN have enjoyed a hands-on play test with Valve and put down their thoughts here. Its a good read, with some great information about what to expect from Survival mode specifically. Some of the key points are as follows:
In all of the play testing that the Valve designers have done while creating this mode, none of them have ever survived past the 10 minute mark. The best so far was about nine minutes, with a team of elite players battling like crazy to keep one another alive. IGN's experience at Valve averaged around three or four minutes a round.
You'll get multiples boss zombies at a time; they often saw two or three hunters or smokers leaping around the battle while the mindless horde minions were everywhere. In one battle, there was a tank, a boomer, a couple of smokers, and a hunter hitting us at the same time. It's even possible to get two tanks at the same time
12 Survival levels available, 11 of which are taken and modified from the existing four campaigns
There is one entirely brand-new level in the DLC called Lighthouse which the designers say may be the toughest level of them all
You can earn bronze, silver, and gold medals if you survive long enough. Though the medal times for each map will be tailored for each map, right now the basic idea is that you need to survive for at least four minutes to get bronze, six minutes to get silver, and eight minutes to get gold.

Any dates yet for the DLC? I'm sure spring is starting now....

The guy controlling the person you watch is rubbish, slow reaction times, doesn't help anyone lol, get's huntered in 3rd video lol

Excuse me, I believe I was playing, not Gord, surely the destruction and general survivor rape should have been evidence of this? :D

aye lol hes crap, and they dont work as a team. Me thinks IGN are rubbish at games >.>

DLC was stated for soonish iirc, but its valve time so maybe christmas :P

It was reflux playing!
It was a good game, fair play to no quitting too, it was nice to be back after a few days off due to a format.
On the subway, it was my perfect pounce on Dingleberry (I think) on the ledge, that started it off :p

For me the worst was at the subway stage when you have to go down the stairs into the station. We didn't even make it past the stairs!

ive played and not made it out the first corridor before :/ instant spawn tank is hilarious, especially when the other team get FOUR MOLLYS in the first room on their go... Stupid game!

I just got a mental picture after reading about the new survival mode that the prepare time can last forever, before someone pushes the button. What if we get a mad survivor player who doesn't allow the players to push the button "I Want to Live!!!!" :D

I found it funny anyway, there's a reason I'm "Link to Insanity..." ;)

That was the best I have seen a team do. I've never seen the opposing team not finish one of the stages. You barely got out of the safe room on most stages. I was thinking to myself on the 1st stage of NM, when you were actually near the end ready to leg it into the safe house 'these guys are doing good this will be hard'. lol Then all hell broke loose.

The funniest part of the game last night was on the 4th level of No Mercy when the tank was chasing so we ran down the stairs that take up up the the lift back towards the middle section and the tank in hot pursuit fell down the elevator shaft lololol. It then and had to go all the way around and up the stairs again to get to us by which time it was dead. My Benny Hill sound file was well and truly worh out after lasnt nights game.

Do you remember the section in the sewers when I climbed up the ladder and got smokered? Nobody could get up cause of the horde and nobody could should the smoker as they couldnt get up. Very cunning and certain death for me!

That was on the finale.

You got smokered and fell back down the ladder slightly instead of being dragged away off the roof blocking the way up for everyone else.

We couldnt shoot you free, and since you were up the ladder we couldnt melee.

:(
