GTX 460s - Who is getting some for folding?

Very nice, guess the only other considering factor is the energy consumption. From what I've read this is where it could fall down.

Furmark:

GTX470: 390 x 2 = 780w
GTX460: 304 x 3 = 912w

Approx 17% more

Another review stated (3DMark06):

GTX470: 341 x 2 = 682w
GTX460: 248 x 3 = 744w

Approx 9% more

These figures are using the 768MB card which consumes around 20-25w less.

Ok, worst case:

2 x GTX470

215W x 2 = 430w
430/1000 = 0.430*24 = 10.32KWh/day
10.32 * 365 = 3766.8
12p x 3766.8 = /100 = £452.02/year

3 x GTX460

150w x 3 = 450w
450/1000 = 0.450*24 = 10.8KWh/day
10.8 * 365 = 3942
12p x 3942 = /100 = £473.04/year

Approx 4.7% more expensive to run 3 x GTX460s than 2 x GTX470s

The prices, both the 12p per unit and the total price per year won't be accurate, it was using the maximum power-draw values from a review I found. But it does give some indication.

Nah the cards themselves only draw 155W each the figures you have are for whole system at the socket power.

So it would be totalsystemW+1cardW + (Y x cardsW)

2 x GTX 470
346W + (1x232)W = 578W

3 x GTX460
270w + (2x155)W = 580W

I was really just trying to compare the cards on their own, ignoring the system but I guess you are right the values are too large.

Any idea where to get the correct single card values? Where did you get 155 and 232?

nVidia website states the GTX460 as Maximum Graphics Card Power (W) 160 W but doesn't state if that is 768 or 1024mb. Nothing on the 470 page though.

Just noticed this one the Koolance website:

Cooling for NVIDIA's GTX 460 Coming Up
Koolance is currently working on a full coverage video block for the new NVIDIA GTX 460. Additional updates will be posted here when available.

Here yee goooo

If the blocks come out I'll swap my one GTX480 for three GTX460's :D
I like the idea of that, but with 4 pci-e slots I want to put as much horsepower as I can into my crunching rig as it will eventuallly be my only cruncher..
I plan on another 470 next month, then Im going to wait for the dual gpu fermi if it comes for the other two - gives me time to save up.
Going down the 460 route will be cheaper, but the trade off in ppd isn't worth it...

Agreed, if you neede to maximise ppd for a single box then yes go 470s or 480s :D
