Considering a car change in March-April next year and looking to spend upto 45k

And an Audi RS4 has no turbos.

Ask Housey how cheap they are to run.

You sure this one has one.. Or did they do them with and without..?

I said he should have got a Corvette like 10 posts in :p

On the note of that blown V6. I'd kill for a prev-gen RS4 or RS6 but the running costs are frankly obscene. That, and they still command silly money.

You can pick up a TT-RS for 37k with less than 10k on the clock. I am sure one went for under 35k on one of the forums.

To me 45k is a bit of a no mans budget I would save for longer and up the budget to buy a 997 Turbo with a long warranty.

I really don't get this. It buys just about every type of car you'd possibly want!

What I mean is that 45k will buy either a oldercar with epic running costs like a 996 Turbo/GT3/360 etc or a newer performance car like a TT-RS/M3/Cayman S etc which will be fairly cheap to run.

I would rather save another 20k odd and buy a newer car like the 997 Turbo with a warranty which has fairly managable servicing costs.

If you are spending 45k buying a car saving another 20k odd shouldn't be a problem if it is you shouldn't be buying a 45k car !

Exactly. Because for some reason you talk about haldex as though its an OEM propriority technology rather than what it is. Its a company that casts big ally boxes and stuffs steel cogs into them to meet the customer requirments. The capabilty of a 'haldex' system can vary from Golf 4 motion to full fat range rover.

I did post several pages back that the 4th Gen Haldex is fitted to the Insignia VXR and the Saab 9-3 Turbo X so i am aware it's not proprietary to one specific mark.

As with most component suppliers to manufacturers, no doubt they can offer you something off the shelf (ie the 4th gen haldex system ) or make you a system that bespoke to your requirements - ie the Audi Quattro Sport Differential thats optional on the new B8 S4 that has Torque Vectoring. Don't think anybody else has this yet, and its not specifically a separate generation of Haldex, as it was made for audi.

But nevermind, lets not take it off topic any further.

I'd honestly rather own a TT-S than a TT-RS. The RS just isn't £20,000 better.

Totally agreed.

The TT RS does appear to be a nice car. Good to live with every day, nice performance, tunes well etc..

But its simply overshadowed by the other cars being discussed here. The price is placing this car in the firing line of cars that are a class above. When this sort of money buys you 911s and ZO6s etc.., it just looks a bland choice.

They have flappy paddles.

The C63 is a conventional Torque Converter Auto I believe, albeit one with flappy paddles for a manual override.

Gibbo is definitely a manual fan, and a fan of handling, something the C63 is worst in class at. The e90 M3, the ISF and the RS5 are all faster than it round a track.

I'm not really sure its fair to judge handling by track times. Indeed, the RS5 came plain bottom of both Evo and Car Magazine's reviews because of its handling, so clearly they felt the C63 wasn't the worst handling car in its class - and they drove them all back to back...
