2.0 or 2.1 speakers for music, game with headset most of the time

Thanks.

As I said, I am only favoring it, for the way it looks rather than anything else.

Will have a search for some vids, I forgot what crazy things people put on YouTube!

Are the Xonar's better then Creative cards?

And how would the Xonar connect to the speakers above?

1. It depends on one's tastes and experiences. Some will say Xonar's are better, some will say the X-Fi's are better.

2. Same way as the speakers would connect to the X-Fi.

I don't know if the R1600T's come with an RCA to 3.5mm cable. I assuming they do. That cable would just connect to the green jack on either card.

Yeah, it comes with an RCA to 3.5mm cable.

For music listening, the Xonars tend to outclass the Creative-equivalents up until the Titanium HD - then the gap starts to close.

Definitely. The Edifiers will produce massively better SQ in the frequency range. The bass may not have as much "volume" (but considering the small size of the X-530's sub, it may not matter), but it will sound tighter and better controlled than the Logitechs.

Awesome, think I will order once I've paid the council tax, lol.

Edifier's and D2X for me unless someone has any other views? Technically have till Monday to wait as nothing would be shipped till then.

Cool, I prefer the D2X looks wise over the X-Fi so unless the X-Fi will sound noticeable better in games I'll stick with the D2X (prividing the LEDs aren't very bright!).

I take it my current Mobo on board won't pass 5.1 to the headset as that's how it's connected now?

No, doesn't look like it, looking on Asus' site.

It does have DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC, which I believe is the DTS version of Dolby Headphone.

You need Dolby Digital Live, as that's what the X41's use.

Had a look at some pics of the D2/X's lights, and it's hard to judge how bright they are. They look fairly bright from what I see in pictures.

I suppose it's no problem for most people, as they will not be in sight.

Thanks. So I would hear an improvement when using the X41's then?

As for the lights, I doubt it'll be too hard to cover them up.

The benefit of a sound card, when it comes to sound quality, is when analogue speakers or headphones are used.

When using SPDIF, which is digital, it's data that is sent, and then converted into analogue sound by whatever is connected to the sound card. In this case your X41's.

Technically, there should be no sound quality difference between a Xonar DG and a D2/X when using SPDIF. Using analogue speakers or headphones, is a different story, and the D2 should show why it's a considerably more expensive card.

There might be some difference in sound quality when using digital, as some people think one sound card can sound better than another, even though it's data 1's and 0's being sent through the digital connection, and not actual sound.

I have just paired the edifiers with a D2G. To me they sound fantastic for the cash. Music is excellent on the edifiers. Really pleased with the value for money of this combo. I watch movies on a 5.1 setup- if you want to watch movies, I would change to a 2.1 or 5.1 otherwise action films lack bite.

Thanks, but surround would work better with the D2X due to it being sent in Dolby?

My PC is in the same room as my home cinema setup hence zero requirement for 5.1 speakers. If I want loud punchy bass with music, I'll turn on my Sony hifi and drive my bad boy Cantons.

I just want some PC speakers for generic use, like YouTube, light music listening, sometimes loud and sometimes gaming, so I think the Eidifiers will be perfect.

Just need to figure out a way to stream my iTunes collection to my WD Live now!

any reason why you just don't hook up your main rig to the pc ?

Location more than anything, my TV is over in the corner and it's all set up for home cinema. My GF tends to watch movies etc if I game hence the headset and the PC isn't in the spare room as if it was, she'd never see me.

I can vouch for the R1600Ts, upgraded from my old Logitech X530s. The bass from the X530's was far too overpowering, and it annoyed the flatmates. I also didn't realise what I was missing..

I have the Xonar D2X and the clarity from the R1600Ts is superb, always puts a wee smile on my face, esp when watching films. I have them sitting on my desk, the right speaker has a bass control on it which is handy. I only have it sitting at about 75%, it warms my music nicely and is more than enough. Was initially worried about a lack of subwoofer, but no longer. Although on the flipside of that last statement, perhaps I am not a basshead, but each to their own of course.

What I can say though is that you won't be disappointed :)
