Headset using xfi cmss 3d or Dolby Digital 5.1?

In bf3 make sure you have enhanced stereo turned OFF in the audio options. CMSS 3D sounds a lot better with that off, give it a try.

Yep thats off. If I have CMSS 3D enabled I don't get proper 5.1 as these Roccat Kave headsets have 3 speakers in each can making a 5.1 setup. CMSS 3D should only be used if you want "virtual" surround sound using 2 speakers... unless someone can prove me wrong?

Damn you and your super fast quoting :p I didn't realise that you had moved onto a multi speaker headset, I was reading your first post. Also didn't see that someone had already suggested turning off the enhanced stereo in BF3...

All in all, a fail post from me.. move along, nothing to see here ;)

I seemed to have found the best settings to get the most from the Kave headset.

Have windows sound set to 40%, on the slider control have centre and front sliders set two thirds from the bottom up, and rear almost to the top. Sub is in the middle. This way the ambient noises in BF3 aren't as loud yet the sound effects (gun shots, footsteps, vehicle noises) are loud enough to hear and pinpoint their position :) I can truly say this is much better than CMSS 3D.

What I thought were the best settings I feel aren't good enough for me. Basically I'm finding guns sound too tinny and lack the thud. I know what an AK47 sounds like, and the Kaves make them sound like a paintball gun!

So I've messed around with Windows 7 sound settings, Creative Control Panel and the slider control that comes with the Kave. I've found the best results by setting Win7 sound volume to 90%, leave creative control panel as it is. Then on the slider controller set the sliders like this: center and front just under half way up, rear just over half way up and sub very close to the top. This was you get more bass in the guns and you can still hear around you.

I found that increasing the bass in Win7 demolished the spacial sounding of the Kaves and became distorted. The Creative Control panel doesnt seem to do anything? Its still not 100% perfect as I like, but maybe the headset needs "breaking in".

CMSS-3D works with upto 4 speakers (4.0 not 5.1). The main problem with CMSS-3D tho is that its tricky to get working "properly".
