Hi..

Just noticed the price drop on the U2412M this week. My Hazro HZ24WBi suddenly died yesterday.. not sure if its still in warranty or not - not heard back from them yet :(

Anyway I was thinking about getting a second 24" monitor...

So.. given that I loved the IPS panel already.. is the dell going to make me happy?

I've read a little about the anti-glare coating on it.. didn't mind the glossy finish on the hazro - anyone comment on how "bad" it is?

Also there's the lack of connectivity - no hdmi :S

My only other concern is gaming - I do notice the response lag a little on the hazro.. is the dell going to be better as tech has improved a little?

And.. finally - given I do play games occasionally.. are there any other monitors I should be looking at.. I could be pushed to spend a bit more if its really worth the money. Maybe theres a non-IPS panel which is better for gaming but doesn't suffer the colour issues? - I've not looked at monitors in a while!

Anyway, cheers for any advice :)

Cheers

bit of a bump..

but also - anyone know what the warranty on that dead hazro would be?.. I think I got it about 3 1/2 years ago.. maybe a little less.

TN always suffers from colour issues ;), current VA panel based monitor are ill suited for gaming purposes.
The u2412m is quite snappy and shouldn't give you any noticable input lag. The coating is something you'll notice the first few days but will get used to (it's the u2711 that has a coating that will drive you mad). If you're after a 24" IPS there isn't a ag-coating free alternative anyway.

I doubt your Hazro is still within warranty. They're only 'forced' to give 2 years by law and their current models give 3 years. Don't know of any monitor manufacturer that gives warranty for more than 3 years.

Thanks for the advice. Still getting nothing out of the Hazro.. only thing I can think of is it could be the power adapter - still no reply from their support.

I'll just get the Dell and then buy a TN monitor for gaming as a 2nd screen. I'm currently on a really old 19" TFT from ~2003 - not good!

I got a reply from their support email - just saying they dont support the older models.

Guess it's out of warranty but if its fixable I'm happy to have a go myself - nothing to lose right?

The symptoms:

Was sat there using it. suddenly switched off - didn't notice any noises or anything odd happening - it just went black. The power light was coming on for a moment then going off for a few seconds.. then back on.. then off again.. etc.

I unplugged it and checked the cables.. plugged it back in.. maybe a slight crackle as I put the power connector back into the monitor - not sure if thats normal as I rarely unplug it.

When it came back on it didnt light up properly.. could just about make out the "going to sleep" message but it was a bit distorted... then since then its carried on with the power light without anything on the screen. Have tried unplugging and setting up again.. left it for a day unplugged - still the same.

So what you think? - I was thinking I should try a new power adapter - I remember having a replacement within a month of getting the monitor - can't remember if the issues I'm having now are similar to then though.

Cheers for any help - would love to keep this monitor going.. the picture is so good :(

edit: Just tried to PM hazro - guess they need to add me to trust/friend first?

Finally found the old order. It's over 3 years :( - bought it in Oct 08.

Guess my best bet is to buy a new power supply and go from there. Please give me any other suggestions.. I'm happy to get my hands dirty.. although hopefully not electrocuted! :)

Maybe you can ask Hazro if you can buy some replacement parts from them, if they have any?

Have asked that in my last message to them. OCUK suggested trying Repair Tech.. not heard of them but I guess I'll have a look!

My U2412M should arrive today, so at least I will have a nice monitor again - would be nice to have the two working together though!

Hi - monitor has arrived but not had a chance to try it out yet :(

Had a reply from Hazro who won't give any suggestions on how to fix it - it's definitely out of warranty anyway. They said they'll soon be selling the power supplies for ~£15 + shipping - guess I'll have to try that. Given that the power light does come on though, I think it's not going to fix it.

Would love some other suggestions.. I guess ill take the back off and have a look if the new power supply doesnt help!
