Before anyone jumps down my throat going on about how he's not worth that, of course he's not but we don't want to sell, don't need the money, he doesn't particularly want to get (yet - despite the rubbish in the papers today that are just regurgitating the Marca stories) but if they want to pay for half our new stadium up front by all means :-)

Just to highlight this point, I think this is an important factor some people don't consider when it comes to "how much is X worth?".

It depends on a lot of different circumstances. It doesn't mean if a player is sold for £50m, he is definitely better than a player who had been sold for £15m.

I honestly don't see it with Bale, he is clearly a very good player, but there are lots of very good players, and lots of players who.arguably contribute more to a team overall than Bale, yet he is supposedly a 100 million pounds player.

Yes I understand the marketing rationale behind the figure, but even then I still don't understand the price, he plays for a middling club, looks like a chimp and has achieved the sum total of **** all in the game so far.

Madness.

Bale won't go, the closest to leaving he'll get is if Levy agrees he can go in a year.

AVB is a class manager, he's made statements this summer when linked to PSG/Barca that he's fully committed to spurs and this will be partly because he's been guaranteed Bale is staying no matter what the offer is. He's said a few times Levy has guaranteed Bale won't go. If Levy went back on this and sold AVBs best player the relationship would break down and he'd end up losing AVB next summer, not hat Levy wants, he's a big fan of AVB.

Similar for Paulinho, he stated he was told Bale would not be sold during his negatiations with Spurs.

Further, spurs are actively trying to strengthen their team. This is difficult since they don't have champions league. Having Bale and keeping bale is a big sell, it means they're really going for it this year.

In terms of income Spurs don't need it, if they sell bale for 100m they'll be cash rich but they'll struggle to bring any stars in and will effectively cement 5th place before the season starts so they'll miss out on champions league money. Given the spend from City, Chelsea and the new threat that Arsenal might spend this is a big year for spurs, if they get left behind they could be looking at years outside the top 4. After having years of it already that's probably what's prompted Levy to spend big this year to finally bring 4th place home and try and cement it long term.

Alternatively spurs keep bale, make some signings, aim for a big season, if it doesn;t work out they can sell bale next summer and in a world where Monaco, PSG, barca, madrid, chelsea, city, the russians and now even napoli and arsenal throwing huge bids around Bale's an easy 50m so there's no big risk in his value of not selling him, ignoring the constant risk of career ending injuries etc.

keep bale, try to break into the top 4 for good, that's what they're doing. Plus Bale's not gone public like suarez and he's a settled family man, no pressure to sell.

post of the month right there

For a £100m they would be mad not to sell bale. Doubt there will be any genuine offers of that though.

Anything around the £50-60 mark I would say no as spurs wouldn't be able to replace him with equal quality without being in cl and even then like arsenal it's a struggle. £70Mplus I would consider it because there isn't a player in prem worth that.

I'm sure they could get someone in to replace the 20 odd goals he scores with £70m plus. Be very impressed if he scores more than 20 next year as he is going to be marked to death.

Sell now whilst the hype is at its peak :)

Just to rile some United fans further:

EDIT: Sorry, I'll put the full quote for extra spack out :D.

I'm more worried that in a season where we have a new manager that places uncertainty on the club, as well as the fact we are going to probably lose Rooney, we think £30m is an acceptable bid for a top class player in a position of vital importance.

I haven't seen the Moyes interview but the quotes sound a bit "oh well."

That is one of his biggest strength in my view. He scored a lot of goals when the opposition was a little bit tired near the end of the game. He also can shoot from range with immense power and movement on the ball which makes marking him out of the game for 90 almost impossible if he is on his game.

Spurs have a good side around him at the moment and dedicating 2-3 players to stopping him would just let the rest of the team flourish.

He is worth whatever Real are willing to pay for him and considering their fan base and the fact most of their die hard fans wanted Bale over everyone else this window, I would think they feel they could recover the transfer fee quite easily.

Ronaldo was good value for Real in the end and I would think the Bale transfer would be the same.

Don't you think it speaks volumes the fact that Moyes is seemingly disinterested in brining Felaini to Man U, and rather chase down blind alleys for Fabregas?

He cant rate him very highly. Surely if he was as good as everyone else thinks, Moyes no1 midfield target would be Felaini.

have real madrid actually got the kind of cash that's been banded about for bale?

Nope, still owe us about 20m from the modric deal.

That's why there is talk of coentrao - write off the debt so we'd get him for very little in real terms

are you. why's that then?.

I'd buy a Bucket shirt - I wouldn't buy a Bale one.

I highly doubt Real are struggling to pay you for Modric. The deal was no doubt agreed to be paid in installments (like the vast majority of transfers).

Not sure how still owing some money can be attributed to struggling to pay too, especially considering Madrid have just mugged Napoli for £60million.

Anything to make the Spurs fans feel better about the inevitable though I suppose.

I didn't say anything about then struggling to pay just that they still have a fair whack still to go.

On more than one occasion this window I have read things about Madrid needing to offload a few players.

Mind you for bale or someone if that stature they probably go straight to el banco for an interest free loan (or was it Spanish royalty?)

If I didn't already have an "I love Coutinho" shirt, yea.

You said they didn't have the cash to sign Bale and that they're supposed to be offering you Coentrao to wipe the debt out.

There's no reason to believe that Real don't have the cash to sign Bale nor that they're going to give you players to pay off what they owe for Modric. 99% of transfers are paid over several years - them owing money to Spurs is meaningless.

AS in Spain say that Fabregas will dispel all of these rumours tomorrow and confirm he won't leave Barca, if not then this will drag on.

I hope something happens anyway, we need putting out of our misery. :p

Reported figures of 86 million for Bale is mental, bat **** mental. What have people been smoking?

He's on a long contract, he's young, Levy is a ****, he won Player of the Year last year, scored plenty of crucial and spectacular goals and is a very well-rounded player.

That's what makes him worth at least 1.72 Fernando Torreses (or 2.45 Andy Carrolls).
