Hey

Just after some advice just a couple of strange things going on with my machine but i just wanted to see if everything with my set up is OK.

First of all MSI Afterburner for some reason i cant adjust down from the settings in the pic. Also My CPU & GPU seem to be running flat out even tho my CPU usage is 0% or there about's when in windows.

2nd When i enter BF4 my card voltage goes from 1.320 to 1.200 is this right ?

3rd When in game if i have my overclock set at 1150MHZ on my MSI afterburner the GPU Core Clock jumps around in game anyway between 950mhz to 1150mhz. Memory stays solid at 1450 and does not move.. is this right ?

Pic idle in windows ?

I think this is more one for our resident 290X guru. but one thing i can tell you is CCC interferes with my overclock, it keeps trying to set it back to stock and my power limit back to 0

My solution was to unistall CCC, you don't need it anyway, just select change drivers in the unistall, advanced, unistall CCC. reboot.

Hello i suffer the exact same problems with 14.2 and 14.3 beta drivers. Everything works as normal for a day or so then i get all the issues with clocks and voltages you have. 13.12 works fine for me and i can overclock without issue.

But shen i overclock with the beta drivers eventually the card gets stuck in a weird idle state with 1.320v and full 3d clocks, yet in game it has a lower voltage and lower bouncy clocks.

Try deleting(make a backup) your AB user profile from the AB directory to set it back to default properly-making sure you restart if prompted when you launch AB.

Check you don't have 'force constant voltage' ticked:

AB isn't working properly with the Power Limit and is buggy for some systems too.

I use AB just for the overlay and use Trixx for oc'ing.

If you had CCC installed, you could have tried to restore CCC Default Settings and then leave AMD Overdrive locked as it doesn't interfere with any oc programs when it's locked afaik.

OK so i have just reset AB and un-ticked the apply overclock settings on start up (will just use this for monitoring now) installed TRIXX when in BF4 now my core just goes between 950-1150 where MSI was a pretty much solid 1150 core on the monitor ? can someone tell me the settings for a single card 290x for TRIxx ? or what this could be ?

Dont listen to "Theycallmeandy". Do this:

1. Click reset on MSIAB and uninstall it.
2. Open your installer file for your drivers, it gives you an option to remove drivers. Remove the drivers and restart.
3. Go to your windows program installs and uninstall drivers there too if it gives you an option then restart.
4. Install install latest WHQL drivers.
5. Install Trixx.

If you run your card oced always max powerlimit.

Dont EVER enable overdrive in the catalyst control center. Also play your games without a framelimiter, vsync etc etc (it'll limit your load and that causes the card to clock down.)

Hey
Thanks for the advice i have uninstalled everything and i am trying the 13.12 drivers it gets half way while installing and getting Unable to install package fail . should i just carry on using the beta drivers. also now i am not using AB whats the best monitor software for GPU ?

I use GPUz

The powerlimit setting does not work with latest drivers, so even though you are choosing +50% it does nothing and shows up as throttling of the core. Wait for a fix or use 12.12 drivers and lose mantle, anything more than 50mv on the core will throttle untill the powerlimit bug is fixed.

The max I can get with latest drivers and no throttling is:

Core +44mV
Core clock 1100
Mem 1450

On 12.12 I can get up to 1225/1625

Abjectblitz, i want to apologize. BUT; its still not the drivers fault. The drivers arent compatible with Trixx or the newest MSIAB. It should work with GPU Tweak and MSI AB 2.3.1 Beta17 with VR controllers added to config though.
So sorry about that, ill check my facts next time before i go on a rant like that.

OP use the drivers Abjectblitz told you to use. OR use Tweak or MSI AB 2.3.1 Beta17 with VR controllers.

Did you use DDU to completely remove the other driver?

yesterday I un-installed afterburner and used trixx to overclock however today my pc is again stuck in a weird idle state.
the state results in full 3d clocks constantly and a higher than normal voltage.
ie. the stock 3d clock voltage is 1.18v however the card idles with 3d clocks(1000/1250) and at 1.227v.
when in game I see normal 3d voltages of 1.18v.

if I have an overclock applied(+100mV@1150/1325) then the card will idle at 1024/1325 and at 1.320v.
again in game the 3d voltage is ~1.273v which is normal for +100mv
im not sure where the 1024 core even comes from.
this does not happen in 13.12 drivers and happens when overclocked with afterburner or with trixx using 14.2 and 14.3 beta.

I apologise as its hard to describe exactly what is happening.
the only fix is to uninstall the driver and then reinstall and not overclock the gpu.
or use 13.12 drivers and overclock as normal.

lol, you were actually right but you must have forgot.

There is nothing wrong with PT with 14.1+ drivers. There is a problem with how Trixx and AB work.

If anyone wants to try it out, you can see for yourself by comparing clock frequencies and usage versus gputweak.

If you have a 7970, you can also test it out by running AB 2.3.1. You can install AB into a secondary folder and run it from there and not touch your default installation of AB.

In my tests I found that AB beta 18 throttled and dropped clocks no matter what I did. Trixx suffered the same issues. Gputweak on the other hand did not. Btw, you should remember, because I ran these test on your rig thru teamviewer.... lol.

With a 7970, 14.3, and AB 2.3.1, there were no usage/clock anomalies at all.
