Evening folks, I do a lot of my gaming with the lights switched off in a dark room and I've noticed that the corners seem to be a lot lighter ot the rest of the screen.
Now I've already had to return one of these monitors due to one side of the screen failing but I was wondering if someone can tell me if the below is normal?

If it changes when you look at the screen from different angles, then it's glow. If it remains static, then it's bleed.

yep, move backwards a couple of meters and look at the corner from head on. is it still there or has it moved so the opposite side of the screen is now more pale?

The last two AOC monitors delivered looked like this...

the second AOC .....

neither were acceptable and both returned. Unlike other IPS screens with their infamous glow the above monitors did not have any glow shift or reduction etc when you moved from the perpendicular or sat much furhter back.

Waiting for DPD to delivery my BenQ today. That also is an IPS but it should not look like the above.

If it does I have a AMVA panel lined up to try next.

The BenQ has arrived and it is perfect with none of the issues noted above. So it is possible to get a good screen with an IPS monitor....

both of the AOC monitors were terrible with bleed issues and yet the Benq is perfect.

The BL2710PT is that? I've seen two samples and they both had very little backlight bleed. Then again the q2770Pqu I looked at was also very good in that respect. They use different panels (AHVA vs. PLS) but both can suffer from such issues or be free from them.

Yes it is and it is perfect, much better than either of the first two. I would not keep a monitor with the amount of bleed shown in my photos.

Regardless of the limitations of the technology, in terms of IPS glow, that amount of back light bleed is in my opinion a reason for a refund or exchange.

To be honest glow/backlight bleed aside, I enjoy playing in a dark room but darkness shows up the limitations/flaws in lcd technology, so I feel that you may struggle to find a monitor that looks really good displaying a black screen in a pitch black room.

I use a small bias light behind my monitor, it makes a massive difference to perceived contrast and definitely hides the backlight bleed. If I turn off all the lights every monitor I've had looks quite bad, with the grey/blue blacks and any backlight bleed etc. it's just very rare for any lcd panels to have uniform blacks. Even va panels suffer from bleed.

The pictures you've posted look quite bad to be honest, it doesn't look like strictly glow to me. Definitely some backlight bleed there. Besides while glow comes with the territory on ips panels, some monitors are definitely worse than others. I went through various exchanges of the same monitor before having one that I could tolerate.

I'd exchange that one without a doubt...

I just dream of the day when oled pic monitors arrive in the mainstream.

Your picture looks pretty overexposed but it still looks bad. I had the same experience as Vimes with the Q2770 having the worst glow and bleed I'd ever seen. Definitely exchange or try something else - it's unacceptable to pay this much money and to find flaws so easily.

I do not understand why they stopped using polarizers to reduce glow

Hey all,

Just received my 27D850D today, is showing the same signs of glow and bleed that the OP's one is. Did you send yours back ICEx21? Should I send mine back for a replacement?

Cheers
