****Official OcUK Fury X Review Thread****

Reading more of the reviews I am actually quite shocked as to how it is barely much faster than a 980 at 1080p. I realise the Fury can be overclocked as well but at 1080p I reckon the overclock on my 980 makes it equal to or faster than the Fury at the resolution I play at.

I really thought this would be faster but it only seems to start showing it's power at 4k.

And 4k is a tiny part of the market, I don't understand how the card performs worse the lower the res you use ? Surely it should be the other way round?
 
I believe this GPU will really shine when directx 12 games are out..

I have a question for couple you guys..

980ti gets 72 fps in x game
FURYX gets 62 fps in x game.. Do you base your buy on that alone or does other things make up your buying decision?

For me frame rate isn't everything for example if say I was running 60hz, and 980ti get 72fps, but furyx gets 62fps what is the point in me buying 980ti?

Another factor for me is cooling and it's true 290x was a hot chip hot enough for me to stick h75 onto it. So the furyx here wins hands down for me.

Anyways I just like to point out I was also expecting more from this GPU but I do believe that has time goes on this will become much a stronger.

Possible, I remember off loading my 680's and going 7970 xfire and then those drivers dropping.

Just a pity my X79 system didn't play well with them when running eyefinity :(

You cannot hedge your bets on dx12 either with this card, all cards wil get a massive boost with dx12, not just AMD cards
 
Overall this isn't good for consumers as a whole, nvidia lowered the price of the reference ti and are probably wondering why they bothered, can't see them staying there for long. Just a lack luster release that had an added unknown in the form of HBM which had people wondering, but in the end made no real difference. We need competition and amd just can't deliver it currently :(

Well if I was buying right now and was looking at reviews for 1080p performance I would be struggling to see why the Fury X is £150 more than a custom cooled 980! A custom cooled 980 will only got to about 60 degrees and be silent as well and the 980 uses 100 watts less power.

Don't really see how any of what I said is contestible.

Why it might be a surprise to some that large performance uplift may come with driver updates on a card with completely new technology is beyond me.

As you seem to think that's so unforgiveable, I'll eagerly await your reaction when NVIDIA releases Pascal some time next year, which will include:

new memory
new memory controller
a new architecture with much larger changes than the last 3-4 generations, which wasn't intended for consumer cards and which was rushed in as a stop gap when Volta was hugely delayed
new node with an additional transition from bulk planar to FF as well as a very large shrink

hint: it won't go smoothly. at all.

I don't think the furyx is aimed at people playing 1080p am afraid. I think AMD want yiu running much higher resolution. One reason why is performs very well at 4k.

They is other GPUs from amd that performance is perfectly fine at 1080p and much less in price.

To be fair to AMD though. Microsoft changed the DX10 spec to accommodate Nvidia's inability to get their 8 series (8800GTX etc) to do AA through software, that's why anti-aliasing was so poor on that card and great on Nvidia based cards. Hardware vs software.

Yep, it's completely in the realm of possibility. I hope it does happen as I dread a nerdy world without competition.
