Denis@home team challenge: 31st Oct - 7th Nov

You have to crunch for the Gridcoin team to get them, I'm not sure what they're worth, I know they aren't on the major exchanges, or at least they weren't.

Cool, our production now is about the same as Sic's, we just need to tip the balance. Have you spoken to Ba recently? I remember you saying he was taking a break.

once he has his linux set up online that's over 100 extra cores, that should stop us falling behind even more.

OK running the optimized app on the windows rigs will try and sort the linux rig later:)
Welcome aboard saah :)

I turned a Windows machine back to Ubuntu as it is only 32 bit to run the SSE41 app from Crunch3r...

I used the instructions from m4gu5 on the DENIS forum but after pasting the linux (32 bit) SSE41 link into the browser I let Ubuntu Package Manager download and extract the files for me, then

1. Opened up a terminal (Ctrl-Alt-T)
2. Change to the directory where the downloaded/extracted files are

3. Open a root shell to be able to access the BOINC data directory
$ sudo -s

4. Move the files to your BOINC data directory
# mv * /var/lib/boinc-client/projects/denis.usj.es_denisathome/

5. Change owner of files to user and group boinc to enable access for BOINC
# chown -R boinc:boinc /var/lib/boinc-client/projects/denis.usj.es_denisathome

6. Restart BOINC
# /etc/init.d/boinc-client restart

7. Exit the shell
# exit

$ exit

If you don't have a package manager that offers to download/extract then you'll need to download and use the tar command according to the instructions given in the link MGP posted

Nice additions to the output, good effort.

I see your good lady wife left the 5930K on till last night but it hasn't contacted the DENIS servers since then (22:46) :(

I'm sure she must appreciate how wonderful we all think she is in letting them run till the end of the challenge, just 5 more days, not just for the team but for the science that they are contributing to. What sort of flowers does she like ?

hey guys, lets all chip in and cover Ba's electric and he can fire all his big rigs up :D lol

if you have any more Ba I would help cover the electric costs for the next few days as I know it wouldn't be cheap running loads of monsters :D:D:D

Other news, we need a sailor with his whistle as unlikely as it sounds a captain is coming aboard :D

Glad to have him onboard (no pun intended) but he currently is running the stock app.

Captain Unlikely, I assume that's an extra spicy E5-2683v3 you have there on your Win machine  so you want to replace the stock app with the AVX2 optisimed one.

Copy & pasted from an earlier post:
download: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...1.6.1_avx2.zip and extract the contents to your C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\denis.usj.es_denisat home directory. Fully shut down the Boinc client (File/exit Boinc) restart and you should be good to go.

For the linux machime you need this one: linux:
Code:
http://www.boincunited.org/opt_apps/denis/denis_1.05_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu__sse41_v3.tar.bz2

HOWTO

he knows ;) , he said he will do it when he gets home tonight :D

just ashame loudbob isn't around any more either, he has some monster 64 core xeons like Ba

According to FreeDC we were the top last 24hr producers  but not by much, and Seti.USA have woken up.

Managed to bump my Xeon's output slightly. Forgot about a feature on the board that lets the system use the turbo frequency all the time (previously wasn't using turbo with the AVX2 app). And gave the CPU a slight overclock so its now at 2.7Ghz with 24 running threads :D

Hot and spicy, correct :) as ozaudio says I'll update the app when I get home tonight. Thanks for the Linux instructions as I'm a massive noob as far as Linux goes, I use it on whatever rigs are dedicated for crunching (just one right now) but I generally have no idea what I'm doing with it so I'd have struggled with that.

well, lets hope the others reply to my message and start rolling in time :)

Haven't done any of this sort of stuff for ages, however just to make ozaudio's day I've set up a PC to help with this task. Nothing special but as they say every bit helps ;) Good luck peeps for the last few days of this.

Welcome aboard :)

I'm guessing you have installed the AVX2 optimised app because all your tasks are failing ?

You need to download and use the SSE41 app from Crunch3r (for Win 64) instead of Sesef's.
