I know it's early days but I know when the 970 came out there were a lot of coil whine issues. I am not hearing the same about the 1080/1070 cards.

Is this now no longer a problem because people have better PSUs or is it just better design or just too soon to say?

I've seen a couple people on Reddit with coil whine on their 1080s. I think it's just luck of the draw.

mine coilwhines bad, its watercooled I think when you take the air cooler off they most likely all coilwhine, could be my PSU causing it but not sure.

Sorry for the stupid question...

I'm looking to get a 1070 and replace my 970 Msi because I have got a 1440p screen.

Question is, why would one choose a founders edition over the rest? As the MSI founders edition is £399 and the gaming X is £420.

Any benefit or difference from the two?

Thanks!

All down to personal choice really.

Reasons I picked the FE over a custom card are:-

1. I know it's a reference PCB, making water cooling potentially easier
2. It was the only choice in stock at the time I ordered
3. I've had custom cooled cards before and fancied a change
4. Heat out the back compared to a custom card which dumps heat inside the case
5. Overclocking seems to be more down to silicone lottery rather than the number of power phases you have (ignoring hardcore overclockers) so i'm not really loosing anything having only a single 8 pin power connector

Yer, even with the gouging, the 1080 is too pricey for my liking. I felt the 1070 non FE card was a fair price though but some proper gouging going on with that card at the mo.

Another thing that springs to mind is all the people who rushed to sell their 980 Ti and TitanXs before the 1080 launch in case the Maxwell cards dropped in value a lot. This was probably a mistake as all that has happened is any money that was saved by a quick Maxwell sale is lost again by the Pascal price gouging.

Even worse is with the ex Maxwell owners now needing a new card quick, they have inadvertently made the Pascal price gouging worse.

I sold my 980ti for 375 meaning I can get a 1070 for nothing. Having said that was it worth it? Not really but I did it and now have to live with it.:p

What is clear is that 980ti are dropping. There is one in MM does a solid 1500mhz on the core Gigabyte and its not sold. 980ti will have to go sub 300 soon or no one will buy them.

I think when we can get 1070's for 349 its a decent card for the money.

The price on the seahawk is quite funny like :p might as well gran the clown 1080 for the same price it'll be functional whilst you save up for a waterblock etc to throw it under water, makes much more sense.....

Well since you can buy brand new, pre overclocked 980ti for £399 today I think you did well selling your for £375 when you did :)
