slightly confused by my G1 settings through GPUz

my default clock is 1696mhz

boost is 1835

when i click on sensors and run a stress test the clock speed is 1923 mhz

how come there is a further boost setting to 1923

Got my Zotac amp edition today, hits 1987 stock boost in heaven and doesn't go past 75'c, I'll have to Google around to compare to others but seems pretty good.

That is how gpu boost works. If there is thermal and power headroom available it will boost higher.

Not sure think 70%, I'll check tomorrow, it's quieter than my retired Galax 970 exoc though which is a bonus.

WOW. My goodness. Coming from a 570 SLI I can't even begin to express how insanely powerful this card is. The Witcher 3 used to make the room sound like it had a jet firing off somewhere, but with this 1080, max settings at 1440p, 60 FPS about 95% utilisation at ~1900MHz, temps around 65-70DC and the fans are as good as inaudible - 44% (may be biased coming from jet engine 570s). I played BF4 and the fans didn't even come on for the first 15 mins at max settings because it was barely utilising the card. Absolutely breathtaking. Worth every penny. Here I come, gaming!!

MSI Gaming X issues

Hi all,

Firstly, apologies if anyone has posted something similar - I did a quick search and couldn't find anyone else mentioning this...

...so this is just a quick heads up for any new MSI Gaming X owners out there - it might save you a frustrating day of searching and tweaking to fix a simple issue.

In short, mine arrived yesterday. I was changing out from an AMD HD7950, so quite an upgrade and a significant change from Crimson to NVidia CP.

Install was a breeze - however - as soon as I started testing: GTA V, the Division and Witcher 3, I noticed some real issues with "lagging" in the games. It would run fine and then the FPS would drop through the floor, then pick up again. Noticeably worst in GTA V when entering my garage. FPS would drop sub 10 and it would move like a turtle in treacle. Not good. :confused:

I followed this up with a "basic" default Firestrike benchmark and pulled a paltry score of 8000. Somethings not right. :eek:

To cut a long story short - despite having initially done a full driver removal of AMD Crimson, I did a deep driver clean from safe mode to make sure any lingering AMD settings were not causing issues, and removed the Nvidia drivers to perform a fresh install: Link:

This certainly helped and pulled me up to a FS score of circa 12K after a fresh re-install of drivers. Still not right though and the gaming issues persisted. :rolleyes:

So, in short, having tweaked every setting I could find and re-tested umpteen times, I found a google post about the MSI Gaming App.

I disabled it and VOILA! all is well and my system finally running buttery smooth. Firestrike coming in at just south of 18K and games running beautifully with my X34A G-Sync panel.

Very annoying that a piece of software shipped with the card caused me such issues. It could be a conflict with the likes of Corsair Link, which I use to control my Corsair H100 cooler - I've seen something similar before with multiple software trying to regulate fans etc, but I don't know for sure. Once I'd found the culprit, I didn't bother with further investigation/disabling Link or similar!

Following this I've uninstalled the gaming app and performed the MSI BIOS update to "fix" my card in OC mode.

tbh you should never install apps that come with any hardware i find. best to get the small driver from their site

Returning my 1070 and have ordered a 1080 instead which should be here tomorrow. The 1070 performance is good, but as my build is only Mini-ITX it wasn't good enough for the performance I want and with no option for SLI, it had to be done.

Hoping my 1080 has no whine at all, as my current MSI 1070 did have some. Ordered a 1080 Gaming X to replace my 1070 Gaming X.

Very pleased with mine so far. Running Witcher 3 with slider to Ultra in the mid 50s at 3440x1440. Buttery smooth (for me) and sure an upgrade over my 980 GTX that could barely keep to 30 (more like late 20s) FPS at Ultra.

Next I'm going to be overclocking my CPU to see if there's a bottle neck.

Same here even with sli was only getting 40-50fps now with my sli 1080s getting 75fps + at 3440x1440 going to start my play through this weekend now

Hi all I've always been a Radeon guy but my next GPU is definitely going to be Nvidia , I have a i5 4670k @4.2 with a r9 390. Any of you had a similar setup and gone to a 1080 card?.would the 1080 be a considerable upgrade from the 390 ..I have a Dell U2715H 2k monitor, thanks guys for any advice.

I've nearly buckled a few times and swapped to an FE . . .staying strong though. I know it won;t be any faster, but the temperatures are important to me.
