Thanks Kaap. :)

I don't know if it's me but coming from a 390, the display doesn't look as sharp on my 1070. It's as though fxaa is on all of the time. My eyes are going nuts adjusting. :eek:

That was the first thing I noticed too. Strange. But got used to it now.

So I just got done having a go at overclocking using stock voltages only.

I managed to get a stable +170 on the core which produced 2101 after it settled for 20 minutes.

Memory wasn't the best as I could only add +300, probably due to it being micron and not samsung. I am not complaining though as I won't be overclocking for gaming use.

Fans at 70% keeping the card at an average of 59c and very quiet.

I am very happy with the card overall and highly recommend it. :)

Edit: I have now increased the voltage and the core is now holding at a settled 2114 mhz. Fan at 85% and still very quiet with temps now at 58c.

But I can't add anymore mhz to the core so I may have found the limit on my card.

I find AMD and NVidia cards do sometimes look a little different but it is not huge.

I sometimes think the colours are a little more vivid on AMD cards but that may just be me.

Just received my Gigabyte GTX 1070 Mini ITX OC from OverClockersUK, upgrading from my trusty ASUS GTX 970 Mini as I purchased an ultra wide monitor (3440x1440) and the 970 was struggling to keep up. It's very early days but so far am impressed by this little package in particular how cool it runs, a good 10 degrees lower than the 970 while folding. It is also very quiet, about same as the 970 and I'm not detecting any coil wine at all (didn't have any with the 970 either).

Anyway a couple of photos, top one is side by side comparison with my old 970, bottom one is just the back for anybody that maybe interested. You will notice the SLI bridge slots which I was suprised to see there, not sure why I was as they should all have it but guess I thought nobody would SLI the ITX version.

The card has three modes -> Gaming Mode - 1531/1721; OC Mode - 1556/1746; Eco Mode - 1507/1697. You need to download the, not very good, Xtreme Gaming software to access these and I noticed as soon as you quit the software it reverts to Gaming Mode so all the tests below are in Gaming mode. I haven't had chance to mess with this any further or try the other manufactures OC utils.

Some results from testing, please note I just ran these with no attempt to optimise anything and the benches are single runs. I was initially more interested in how it performed against my old GPU under the same set-up than getting the perfect score:

Folding -> PPD 640,552 (9704), temp while folding 69C, Fan on Auto 2025RPM, ~10C cooler than the ASUS 970. Difficult to get exact speed up but it is around x1.8 faster.
Firestrike -> 15238 vs. 9984 for 970 [x1.5] (same CPU, mem, motherboard etc...)
Firestrike Extreme -> 8035 vs. 4942 for 970 [x1.6] (same set-up)
Firestike Ultra -> 4290 vs. 2548 for 970 [x1.7] (same set-up)
Timespy -> 5773 vs. 3445 [x1.7] (same set-up)
Valley Benchmark 1.0 (Extreme) -> FPS 114.8, Score 4804
Valley Benchmark 1.0 (Extreme HD) -> FPS 92.8, Score 3884
Heaven Benchmark 4.0 (Extreme) -> FPS 116.9, Score 2945

TomDD

My Build
Intel Core i7-6700k (not overclocked)
ASUS Z170i Pro Gaming
16GB G.Skill 3200 DDR4 (2x8GB)
NVMe Samsung SSD 950 256GB (OS drive)

thanks for the post, was wondering the layout of the board and to how much it difference from the 970 mini/twin turbo.
Might keep a win Turbo shroud for a card like this in the future :D should fit over just fine

I've always been of that impression swapping between AMD and nVidia - AMD cards look like if you set the nVidia digital vibrancy up a little bit - but without the loss of colour depth you get with doing that.

Apologies in advance for being lazy and not just researching this but hopefully somebody can help answer this quickly to save me some time.

Anyway I don't fully understand how the boost clock works on the new Pascal chipset. My new 1070 GTX Mini in Auto/Gaming has base clock of 1531MHz and boost clock of 1721MHz, memory is clocked at 2002MHz. I'm folding 24x7 and have been monitoring temps etc... but noticed my core clock is stable at 1873Mhz and Memory at 1901MHz with a GPU load of 98%. Why is the boost going above 1721Mhz and why is memory under clocking? Or am I just being thick?

If you have adaptive power management or optimal power in the NVCP set then memory clocks will go up and down (upto the max set) depending on the utilisation of the GPU. The boost clock is the "guaranteed" minimum boost the actual boost clock will depend on the quality of your core, temperature and some other factors.

Ok thanks, I checked NVCP and it is indeed set to Optimal Power.

I spent all morning trying out different drivers and to my eyes, the latest two drivers look blurry to me. Driver 368.69 is perfect so I'm going to stick with them.

no you not wrong. AMD has better overall quality than nvidia. i tested this in PS many times.over many years.

i often wonder if nvidia remove or not show the fuller detail to often get that extra little fps boost.

You are doing something wrong if you don't have full detail - there appears to be a slight increase in vibrancy on AMD GPUs but I've never seen any loss of detail in side by side comparison with equivalent settings.

Anybody here have the INNO3D GEFORCE GTX 1070 ICHILL AIR BOSS X3 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD?
Seems a good price to factory boost ratio but ive never heard of inno3d before?

I have it and it's a excellent card. Inno3D have been around for years and I believe the warranty is with OCUK for the whole 3 years. See my initial findings here. Mine overclocks to 2152/9914mhz and with the system at full load pulls less than 280w at the wall.

Thanks for that it sets the mind at ease :) now to sell these 7970s to help fund it......
