*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

I'm sure there will be coolers coming out on the same day. Didn't Noctua already announce compatibility kits for their current coolers?

You'd hope.
I remember the first user review of an i7 9xx was done on a stock cooler.

I just remember instances like the H50 from corsair originally not having an AMD mount etc. I think the same was true of some CPU blocks too

Why did AM4 need a new mounting system?
Imagine not being able to have a quality cooler day one?

Hopefully they'll all be coming with the wraith cooler anyway, which is meant to be a pretty good cooler in its own right. And several high end coolers are going to have brackets available.

By the looks of it most coolers are going to be a case of unscrewing the hook mount things it comes with and using a backplate and the screw holes. So should be relatively simple for manufactures to adapt older coolers to the socket.

Finally, AMD has teamed with boutique PC builders from around the globe to show off Ryzen “dream PCs,” as the company calls them. The lineup ranges—you’ll find an assortment ranging from practical systems to the most exotic, tricked-out builds imaginable. I’m looking forward to checking out some of these firsthand in the morning, but in the meantime, here’s the full list of partners who’ve built Ryzen rigs

I know it's the wrong forum but I'll answer you anyway. It puts it right in the middle of the 1080 and the TXP. That being said, it was on Vulkan which heavily favours AMD cards.

Good to know, though is it that it favours AMD or the fact AMD has a better architecture for modern API's ?
