;)

While prices between the same series (i5 3rd gen to i5 7th gen etc) hasn't really increased significantly in $ RRP

I would have hoped in those 5 years or so that we'd be on 4c/4t i3's, 4c/8t i5's and 6c/12t i7's in the mainstream chipsets by now but unfortunately there's been no incentive for intel to do this as there hasn't been any competition :(

Intel have made some movement, albeit lacklustre.
Pentiums are now 2C/4T which is genuine progression.

Entry price point for hex core CPU's came down too with the 5820K versus the 4930K.

But apart from that, the stagnation is very apparent.

I'm happy with the Pentiums, but for me it should be ; entry i3 should be 4C/4T and entry i5 4C/8T and entry i7 being 6C/12T.

But could they have actually done so? In doing so AMD would have become almost irrelevant. AMD only have relevance due to Intels stagnation.

I don't think you understand currency devaluation.
The CPU's aren't bought in pounds, they don't have a set pound price. They are priced by the dollar, our pound now is worth less to the dollar, ergo it takes more pounds to get the same product.

It's no surprise Leave won.

I don't think you understood the tone of the post.

It's why I'm hoping that Ryzen brings AMD back into the fray. If they can get their 4c/4t as the i3 equivalent, 4c/8t (i5 equiv), 6c/12t (i7 equiv) etc cheaper then I'll be going for that.

I just begrudge paying £230 to upgrade for a newer i5 chip which doesn't offer any extra cores or even Hyper threading even after 5 years.

Simple option is to not buy.
I have no intention of buying, so won't.

Oh I certainly won't be, I was just saying that is the state of things at the moment and its quite saddening.

It now means my hopes are now resting on AMD to offer some sort of sanity for people like me who have to budget for an upgrade and can't just throw extortionate amounts of cash at what is a luxury item.

I was hoping we'd have the price and full specs for Ryzen today so I would have some figures to work with, but alas it appears we probably won't have any solid info on ryzen or vega from CES

Think the 7700k CPU at < £350 is pretty good personally for the new tech, simply slotting into the same price the 6700k was selling at recently. I know it's not much faster but still improved none the less.

Man, Intel's lack of progress coupled with ludicrous prices have really gifted AMD an opportunity to be relevant in the CPU space once more.

It literally could not be a better time for AMD to launch a decent product, the stage is set, as long as Zen delivers on performance they could clean up here.

Kaby Lake higher end is an absolute travesty, no gains, but massive gain on price.

The lower end looks ok, Intel almost giving you more than 2 cores, well sort of as it's just 2 extra threads. But it's something?

Come on AMD the Iron is hot, don't disappoint xD

Except there's no price rise.

It's the same performance. You might as well give the money to charity and pretend the 6 is a 7.
