Belkin router on 10mb internet

Hi, ive been running a 4 port belkin router so that i can connect 2 PCs and a laptop to the internet for quite a while. But ever since i was upgraded to 10mb from 4mb, in online games i get constant loss, and when downloading files its slower than a direct connection to the internet. It goes from around 540kb/sec to 850kb/sec.

Is this just because i am using a router in general that the speeds are slower and i am getting packet loss ? or is it just this belkin one can't handle the amount of data transfer, or the way i have set it up ?

just need to know if i need a new router or if using CCProxy would create a better connection

Double check the spec of the WAN port on the router. Make sure it can fully support the new speed. I have an older Linsys router tha does a similar thing.

can i just do that online somewhere or would it be in the belkin router manual ?

That answers your question then.

It certainly isn't a common thing across all routers, but it's pretty likely to be an issue with the Belkin.

what does that speed mean ? i thought it could handle 10mbit going through it ?

and are belkin not the best network gear to buy?

It means the port should do up to 100Mbps. Whether the rest of the hardware can handle it is debatable...

so any suggestions on a nice cheapish router to buy, just to handle the telewest 10mb and 4 connections easily ?

Mmmmm, can be misleading. My Linksys also says that in the front of the manual. It's not until you dig deeper that you find the actual speed of the WAN is 10Mb and the 10/100 refers to the port connector !

Which model do you have and which sub version (if any).

btw, will the fact im using a surfboard modem be any trouble on the connection? i know some older models haave had trouble but ive got the SB4100.

belkin 4port cable/dsl gateway router version 1100 is the router.
