Hi guys

I have a problem with my Dad's PC. The last few times when he shut it down, it did not power off properly, and had to be manually shutdown by pressing and holding the power switch.

However, now it wont turn on at all!

We have checked the fuse in the plug, and that is ok. I'm not really too sure where to start next! It could well by the PSU and/or mobo. Can nayone give me some ideas of where to start diagnosing this?

Many thanks

System specs (as far as I can remember) are

Athlon XP2100+
Abit KX7-333R
2x256 Crucial RAM
AOpen H500A Midi Tower - 300W PSU
Samsung SP0802N 80GB
Running Windows XP Home

Thanks in advance for any help!

Joe

best thing to do is to check that all the cables are plugged in properly, if it still doesn't work try a different psu, then keep testing each component until you find the faulty one.

psu and motherboard are the most likely followed by cpu and ram

I had a problem last Wednesday with my PC (exactly the same process you have described yourself). Thought it was the motherboard or PSU. My computer was very unstable (showing 100% cpu resources, and the clock was wrong).

But my motherboard light and network card light were on (when the power switch was off). Then I got my torch, looked in the case and compared the jumpers on the motherboards were in place.

Seems when I was spring dusting my PC, a jumper fell down from the CMOS jumper section of my motherboard. So when I came back from Glasgow today, I put it in and everything worked (the power came on).

p.s. forgot to mention that I did remove all cables, and did process of adding and testing.
