Time to get new speakers and i'm getting a 360 soon. Which i'll be playing on my 19" Hanns-G LCD pc monitor. As getting a HD tv would really break the bank.

So can anyone recommend ones which aren't too expensive £50 max, that will work without needing to have my pc on? Thanks.

With an adapter you could use any PC speakers with it (or simply plug them into your TVs lineout/headphone socket). I personally have Philips MMS430 speakers which I paid around £40 for and they are pretty good although I recommend spending a little more and getting the Logitech Z4s.

I think for a lot of speakers at that price range, they'll have no external inputs, just a single cable for connecting directly to the source, such as PC or 360. For the majority I'd presume that they'll have a single 3.5mm phono connection, meaning you'll have to use a "3.5mm coupler", and also a "3.5mm to phono" adapter, as pictured:

3.5mm to phono, though depending on the 360 VGA cable you get, you may get one of these with it:

On that note, I'd probably suggest you try the sound forum on here for the best idea, as I've not got a clue which would be the best for you.

im selling my 2.1 system in members market, used them for gaming on my 360 and have no complaints.
Its logitech z3 2.1 speaker system, selling because i have just bought a 5.1 system.

I've got a 5.1 system for my PC which im only use half of it for PC & 360, i think its the creative 5300 system, not to sure as its 3 or 4 years old now i think, i can't really fault it.

I did pick up from 2.1 speakers with subwoofer in Lidl (hehe dont laugh) the other week for my old PC as the speakers there are on there last legs for £14.99 and they sounded pretty nice, they also have 3 year warranty. you may find it hard to find them in store so if you do want to have a look ask someone in there as i bought a second lot for a family member and they had to go into the office to get one.

Im going through a VGA cable so dont think i can get full 5.1 unless there is some other method when using a VGA.

So with the VGA cable you get for the 360 what do you connect the two audio connectors straight to the pc speakers? As i haven't got any spare sockets on my speakers. Plus theres only line out on my monitor.

I've just noticed i got a mic input on my speakers, So could i use a mini-jack to phono splitter in one of the posts above?

To connect the phonos on the vga cable to my speakers?

you will need a phono to jack socket. Basically one end are sockets for phono plugs (your red and white ones) and the other side is the socket for the 3.5mm jack (where you speakers will plug into).
Not too sure where you buy one from as mine came with speakers, maybe ebay will sell them.

there is a headphone socket directly above the mic socket, a 3.5mm jack fits into both but normal headphones are 1.5mm. But would the mic one fit a 3.5mm jack?

yeh sorry i think i had my sizes mixed up.
Basically your speakers plug into a device with a headphone jack right?
so what you need to do it plug your speakers into 360, but the 360 has phono lead outputs for sound. So what you need is a adaptor which one side has phono sockets (for 360 wires) and another side which has a socket for your speakers to plug into.

something similar to this:

BUT instead of having the headphone jack it has a socket for the headphone jack to plug into.

Sounds to me like you will be needing both:

from the above posts

The mic socket isn't a phono mic socket its just a standard line in socket like a headphone socket. Therefore i think i'll only need the 3.5mm jack to phono splitter.

Thanks for all your help.
