Speaking of NVIDIA, Corsair was also proudly showing off its 620W power supply running a pair of GeForce 8800 GTXs, bringing to light the fact that you don’t need an 800W+ PSU to run NVIDIA’s highest end configuration, you just need an efficient PSU.

I created this thread, as it seems you need a Quad SLi PSU to run 2 x 8800GTX's in SLi, as they require 4 x 6 pin pci-e power connectors (2 per card) and there seem to be very few PSU's around that offer this, and the only ones that do, seem to be more expensive high wattage PSU's...

I checked out that PSU, but theres nothing in the product description as to wether it has the 4 pci-e power connectors... I wonder how many other PSU's have the connections, but not being displayed in the product description?

If i'm right there should be at least two with the PSU, and extra connectors in the 8800GTX boxes. It won't be a problem.

The Galaxy is a really nice PSU, but it's expensive, and a big beast too! :D

[Edit] Found this...

For HX620W: 2 x 800mm SATA connector
cable with three SATA connector heads.
– 1 x 650mm SATA connector cable with
two SATA connector heads.

Not sure if these are the right connectors, maybe someone can clear that up for me.

800GTX sli nvidia certified psu's

The Etasis 850w can be bought for less then a 700w Seasonic if you look around and is rated a Tier1 psu manufacturer here :

http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103

The best according to this site are considered to be PC Power and Cooling, Etasis, Silverstone Zeus line, Silverstone Olympia line, Zippy. Tier2 which have slightly less build quality but still very good are Enermax Galaxy line, Enermax Liberty line, Seasonic S12 and M12, PC Power and Cooling Silencer line and a few others.

I would buy a Tier1 or Tier2. Can't go wrong.
I would stay away from OCZ, Thermaltake, Antec and especially Tagan who have got bad press lately for not being able to maintain claimed voltages. These brands are not bad, it is just there are better out there for the same or less money.

I got my Etasis for around 120 quid and it is an 850w model that can go 70amps at 50 degrees (most PSU's only manage their max amps at 40 degrees or less i.e. Forton), plus is certified for 8800GTX's in SLI. It is not modular (not a problem in an Akasa Mirage), and the sata and ide cabled are braided rather then sleeved (again not a problem as you can run the cables out of sight). However the reason for the reasonable price is because Etasis manufacture their own psu's and don't seem to gouge the price. The likes of Silverstone actually buy the Etasis units, rebadge them as the Zeus model with longer/sleeved cables and charge way more. As do PC Power and Cooling who rebadge the Seasonic made Silencers.
