Best case fans for cool and quiet

Excellent...

Incidently, what does anyone know about Nexus fans?
What do you want to know?
I've got one here, its the best fan i own.

Same as the yate loon d12sl12, which can be had for about a quarter of the price and runs at a slightly higher rpm. Very smooth noise character, but sleeve bearings mean its not suitable for mounting vertically, only horizontally. Comes with both a molex connector and a 3pin, runs very quiet at 12v and is considered completely inaudible from 30cm when undervolted to 7v. Not as good as the noctua or lower rpm scythe s-flex fans, but very close, but if you can get a yate loon d12sl12 for a low price like £5 or so its a far better deal than the noctua or scythe. It has better air pressure than the noctua, so vs the noctua its probably better if you're using it infront of a heatsink but worse if you're using it in a case with no grill restriction.
All in all, its a hell of a fan, and if you can find it in the d12sl12 flavour for a low price buy as many as you have places to put them.

Cheers Joe42, I had 14 of them sitting on my desk yesterday ;)

Will be fitting 4 to my case (well 3 on the case and 1 into my tuniq) this weekend :D

I just bought one, and was able to compare it to my nexus. Its exactly as the reviews said, identical at the same speed but the d12 has an extra 300rpm.

I also noticed that moving the fan from a vertical to a horizontal orientation had no effect on the noise level but caused the rpm to drop by about 150. Presumably this is because of the sleeve bearings, but it seems that it can be run in a horizontal orientation. Not sure if this will have any effect on the life of it though...

Interesting... I am putting them into a P180. The top vent fan will be horizontal, but I could leave the existing one in on low perhaps. The vertical in and out fans have to be changed :D
