Air Con gas recharge - £45 or possibly free

might go down there for the smelly air con thing, my leon's aircon stinks :(

Yeah mine smells as well so I might get it done. I've used a can of air con cleaner (DIY job) from halfords before and while it worked that was £10 so for an extra £10 the job gets done properly!

You'd hope, but I dont have an ounce of faith with Kwik-Fit :p

My air con just doesnt work, i presume it requires a re-gas. If i take it they re-gas it and it still doesnt work then oh well, at least it is free :D

Cheers

I've just bought a 306 with aircon that doesn't work either, had been quoted £60+ at a local garage, didn't even know Kwik-Fit did it, thanks for the heads up, will pop in over the weekend. :)

IIRC the 306's air con compressor is a common failure? Might be worth checking out..

Thanks, at least if it doesn't work after a re-gas, I won't have to pay anything if the compressor's at fault, win-win situation!

On average, how long between "gassings" will air-con last?

Does it depend how much you use it or does the gas need replacing periodically irrespective of how often you use it?

Soz for the newbie questions, just curious.

The Kwik-Fit site says to check every 2 years, but I'm sure on older cars it's best to have it checked annually. I've also been told to use it at least once a week for a few minutes to 'keep the gases flowing', unsure as to how true this is mind?

I cant believe Kwikfit would re-gas your A/C if it wasnt even working.

Will they check if it's working first or just check the temperature at a vent? Just got off the phone to them, and the MOST it will cost is £45, if you only need a topup and nut a full re-gas, it will cost £20 upwards, not a bad deal at all!

I wouldn't trust them to change a tyre, let along an aircon regas.

Why not? They must all be reasonably well trained at what they do, or they wouldn't do it? I wouldn't trust them when they say i need new pads, new tyres, etc, when I can see they're just trying to get some extra money out of me, but I am happy to let them do their job.

I wasn't being overdramatic - I really won't ever trust them to change a tyre again.
I discovered 3 loose wheelnuts (out of 4) a day after the once time I used them to replace a tyre in an emergency.
Add to this with other horror stories I've heard from real life people - not just urban myths off t'internet - and there is no way I'll let them near my car with so much as a damp sponge ever again.

It appears pretty consistent across the country too.

I had my brake fluid changed by them a few weeks ago, they did that fine and didn't try to tell me I needed new discs/pads.

My only problem with them was when I got back into my car to be deafened by my cd player coming on at full volume. I hope they enjoyed my Feeder CD!! (I'd turned the cd player off before leaving the car)
