I don't understand why they didn't use 2x560's?

Good question.... Guessing Nvidia is selling the 4xx parts really cheap compared to the 5xx parts.. again can see this card being too hot and could have done with some more memory .. will have to wait for some reviews and see..

2GB not enough?!

It's really 1GB per GPU and its shared so really only 1GB is available to each and on one set of memory is only a mirror of the other memory.. Start using 2560 x 1600 resolution or more them one monitor and it's not enough when you apply AA.

Remember they designed this a long while ago, we saw leaked shots of this, god knows how long ago, well before the 560gtx was finally released and the pcb design/heatsink everything, its done for a good few months on a card like this.

A 560gtx version would need more power so would need completely reworking frankly, the heatsink could probably stay but depending on new surface mounted components might need redesigning with various cut outs underneath changed, basically its a huge job even for a small change, if the 560gtx used exactly the same amount of power it being basically pin compatible(AFAIK) they could have dropped it in but it uses a good 25W more at stock, 50W for a dual card isn't a small thing. One extra phase could mean half the pcb needs redesigning.

I said in the other thread, the weird thing is, other than Nvidia wanting to dump stockpoles of 460gtx's, do they really want to have anyone release a £300 card, maybe £350 card that frankly beats their £380-480 single gpu monster card quite easily?

Eating into both 570gtx and 580gtx sales, bit mad to be honest.

ah but this way they can sell a few of these and if there seems to be demand for them then they can make the nesscersary mods to accomadate 2 560's.

They wouldnt really need to make any mods, the GTS 460 is just a crippled GTX 560! Both cards use the same PCB.

They don't use the same PCB AT ALL, the 560gtx is longer, has an extra phase or two in power, and a dual gpu version would use 50W more or so, the whole thing would need a significant redesign.

I went from MSI GTX 460s to 560s, and had removed the coolers on each to reapply the paste, both PCBs were identical and the same size as far as I could tell. If it was any longer, it wouldnt fit into may case without removing a fan.

Not going to be a great card to buy at this point considering it's probably going to be priced a lot higher than two OC 460s. But that cooler is ****** epic!!

OMG! That game in the monitors. That Tyrannosaur stepping out of the screen. That's PRIMAL CARNAGE... it's going to kick so much asss... I'm one of the donators for that game :) ... They're doing something really epic where you can play as both dinosaurs OR humans FPS-style in an amazing DX11 game world. Glad to see it getting around places, like an EVGA ad.

As for the EVGa. I am so glad this came out. Finally a great SLI solution for those without SLI boards. I expect the price will be affordable too. Probably around the price of a GTX 570 for much better perf.

Agree about the memory. They should have taken GTX 460 768MB cards and doubled the memory/ROPs to 1536 MB/48 and then paired two of these.

That would've given us a Dual GTX 460 3GB - but with an effective frame buffer of 1536 MB. Plenty sufficient for the type of thing you'd use a 460 SLI for.

But even this will probably work great. I mean honestly the people using this 460 2WIN will be those gaming at 1080p or 1200p and for that 1GB is enough
