Ok well I am currently running Windows 7 64bit. It runs just as fast as XP did, if not a little faster.

I have been told that 32bit may run a little faster on my machine due to the fact I only have 2gb of memory. Is this correct?

My System Specs are:

- AMD 64 4000 (939)
- 2gb DDR 400 Memory (mobo will not support more)
- 128mb nVidia 6200 Graphics (AGP)
- 160gb 7200 IDE Hard Drive

Yes I know my computer is old, but no funds to upgrade.

I'd just stick with 64bit tbh. You have a 64bit CPU and if you ever wanted to get a bit more ram, then you could utilize the full amount.

Never heard that. Sauce?

As an aside, how is it you can afford Windows 7 Ultimate and not a new mobo and RAM, which for your system would not cost the same as your OS? [idle curiosity is all :)]

Stick with 64 Bit, the 2Gb of RAM issue is a bit of a myth at the moment. I doubt anyone has done any proper testing to prove if one or the other is faster. Not reliable testing anyway!

As SiriusB has said - might be better to put money on a piece of hardware than dropping to 32Bit. He's mentioned mobo and RAM, if you're into gaming there's plenty of nicer AGP graphics cards available.

P.S. Nice blog mate :)

OK Thanks :)

Windows 7 is the reason I cannot afford new hardware. I started saving for parts but then Windows 7 was released and after enjoying the RC version so much I went out and purchased Windows 7 (student offer). Maybe I should have done things the other way round, but hey couldn't help myself.

My hardware does ok for what I use it for (Internet, Blogging, Web Design and Business) maybe just a little bit slower than I would like.

Cheers Mate, im not a gamer I used to be back in the days of Doom and Duke Nukem though :D

I do need new Mobo, Memory, Graphics and Processor but not sure if I should go for AMD or Intel. I won't have a huge budget but as I said, im not a gamer.

:p

I believe AMD is better for budget builds, but to be honest I don't think there is much in it. I would have thought Intel, since if you decided to get a better CPU it would most likely be an Intel...

I could be wrong though, Intel have confused the issue with two different sockets >.>
