HD component vs HD vga (360 leads)

I run my 360 through a 23" widescreen Samsung HDTV and have both the HD VGA cable and the HD compenent cable.

was just wondering would there be any preference over which one to use, i have both inputs free but does either one give a great degree of picture quality.

at a glance it seems vga is smoother but the colours arent as bright

i prefer VGA on my Hyundai TV as i think the colours look richer.
A lot of people just have their own preference really.
Also depends if you're using the other port for anything, i use my VGA for my PC aswell but dont mind swapping the cable when i want to use it as i prefer the VGA quality over component that much.

Different TV = different opinion i suppose!
 
I use componant.

On My Samsung, VGA input does not use dNie picture optimisation and the pic looked really really flat via VGA. There were however less jaggies.

With componant everything seemed much more vibrant. I ended up selling my vga lead in the end as everyone I asked (in my house) preffered the componant.
 
yes, bland, less vibrant, less colourful, edges where not so prominent. The difference was componant was more '3D' whereas VGA was more 'flat'.

Hard to explain really.. I suggest the OP compares both on his set, but on mine the difference was very noticable...
 
Just found my original post about it and I said:

I've just beed testing the VGA vs Comp... The VGA has less jaggies, but the picture is less sharp and less colourful... I've only tested it with Kameo but overal, when using the VGA it just reminds me of a PC a bit 'dull' however plug in via component and it seems to come to life full of colour and depth! I was in the same position... wanted to free up the component socket for my dvd player!! However will have to make do with swapping I think! Got a vga lead for sale if anyone wants it lol

i prefer the vga and i have it hooked up to my dell 24" 2405 widescreen. I find that with the component, all the colours look oversaturated but with vga, the colours look realistic. Also as people have previously mentioned that the vga has less jaggies, very noticeable on games like pgr3.

Also when you use the vga cable, you turn the xbox360 into a dvd upscaler player as well. compare playback between a component and vga and you will notice the difference.

plus the component doesn't do 1080p unlike vga.
 
I have to say VGA in end, i've spend ages mulling over it, but in the end, upscaled dvds and less jaggies did it for me. Some people much prefer the colour vibrancy on component though, i guess you just have to try both?

Would it be better for me to buy a VGA cable for it and it would look noticably better?

Personal prefference is the official VGA cable.
I think the component made everything a bit too sharp, which in some games enhanced the jaggies a bit more. Although the colours are better on the Component.
Its horses for courses, some feel VGA is better some say component. I also think it can depend on the game too.
Think a poll is in order?

ECL i have the 32inch and preffer the VGA, but only get the MS not a third party.
 
On my Samsung 23" LCD TV I prefer the official VGA lead over the official component lead.

Colours are just about the same, plus the picture is much crisper and there are less jaggies in games. In something like PGR3, it makes a hell of a difference.
 
I compared them back to back on my 32" Samsung and opted for the VGA cable, it gives a much better picture and although the colour is a bit washed out compared to the component cable, you can just change this in the tv settings anyway.

VGA all the way.
 
I like a little bit of both , i just swap the vga lead to component lead as the needs suit. My Hyundai A321 likes both, but colours appear more vivid with component. Dither dither i did, and used both leads to suit, solved my problems , although i still dither which one to use :D
