Official Thread - Apache Air Assault

Hey people, I searched for "Apache Air Assault" on forum and it found no post so just thought I'd post about this game, I just got it today, its awsome, I got it on PC after trying demo on PS3 and am loving it so far, got my old joystick out and dusted it off and yeah it did take me like an hour and a half to setup the joystick, it was a bit of a pain, but I finally managed to do it, I've completed the training and 3 mission on realistic and I think its awsome so far.

I havent tried multiplayer yet just single player but I reckon multiplayer could be awsome.

I used to love flying planes and helicopters in desert combat and BF 1943 and also in the new BC2 so yeah, I give this game 9/10 so far, the engine is sweet, got everything set to max, the game doesnt look amazing, but I think the graphics are perfect for this kinda game.

What do you guys think? Anyone else enjoying it?:D

EDIT: allot of people online moaning about controls on PS3 and xbox 360, but I tried it with joypad and joystick, and mouse and I've liked it with all 3. But joystick is better then mouse and so is
joypad imo.

Just been watching some videos of it, of which there are like five...
Looks alright actually, but because of the console market as well, it puts me off, as I'd rather have more of a decent "sim" rather than another H.A.W.X. but for an Apache.
May still buy it though, my mates really into Apaches just like me, could lead to some fun evenings ;)

How exactly does this come up in conversation?

What? Apache helicopters? He's fanatical about certain military aircraft, and aspires to be a pilot, unfortunately he's massive and he didn't get on too well in the Cessna he was learning in... 1) it was costing a bomb and he's now raising a family, and 2) he had to lean his neck to sit in the pilot seat :D

Would hate to think how many hours we've spent watching footage of AH64's and A10's...

i got the ps3 demo and the controls are too wierd, no matter what i did i ended up flying on my side :\, although i like the apache aswell and when it eventually goes down in price i might just get it

Was talking to a friend about this game (he bought it) and he said what really p***ed him off was that the only 2 joystick setups where for xbox/ps3 joysticks

and that it has took him ages just to get it working with his logitech stick, also says its quite good.

The thing is, so many people have complained about the controls, but I've played a few games in past with helicopters and planes and I think am just used to it. I found it pretty easy on PS3 joypad.

Also yeah the game has two joysticks its tuned for automatically but you can just do a custom setup and add your joystick buttons yourself, yeah it took me an hour and a half to setup mine but in the end it was worth it, I guess for people that have never played these kinda games, they prob arent going to put the effort in.

The only people that are going to put the effort in are people that like to fly helicopters and blown stuff up, like me, haha.

But like I said before, once you get past the controls, its actually a really good game, worth buying.

EDIT: The controls are perfect imo, its just I dont understand why the people that made the game didnt have an auto-setup for peoples joypads and joysticks, coz then it would have been more newbie friendly.

EDIT 2: I got a microsoft sidewinder btw, its like prob over 5 years old and cost me £30 at the time, its been great.

Looks awesome, thanks for this. I'm a big fan of Apaches :D I remember reading about this, and being disappointed that it was 360/PS3 only.

After the debacle that was Wings of Prey they'll need to start supporting their games for me to want to buy anything from them again, giving a demo to consoles and not to pc owners is not the way to go about selling this to us pc owners.

It looks pretty good. I downloaded Wings of Prey and the graphics are very nice.
Apache air assault though is quite a small file size at just over 2gig.

I might get it at some point.

Is this a stupidly unrealistic as HAWX or is it a bit closer to sim in that u have 8 hellfires and 36 hydras and u dont just lock on 4 targets at once fire and forget and have infinite?

How does the handling compare to choppers in BF2?

I played the original Apache AH-64: Air Assault years ago and loved it, don't know if this is the same franchise.

I been playing this game laods, am stuck on a mission called "sharks in the water", its the one where I'm at an oil rig in the middle of the ocean and am trying to protect it and the civilians that are in the life boats trying to escape and theres pirates coming in from all directions on speed boats and I've tried to do this mission like 20x and I've failed everytime because it says "too many civilians were killed" god damn it.

I think the game is brilliant and I completed all the other missions on realistic upto this point with no problem, but this mission is solid, I think they must have made it so you have to be perfect. I think its mission 5 or 6.

Now that my joypad is fine tuned for the game, it feels amazing flying the helicopters and really realistic.

I worked out that if you regulate the speed when turning it helps you to steer and do tight turns and manoeuvre allot better. It's hard to explain but I think I've sussed it and can do some pretty cool flying.

Hows everyone else getting on with the game?

You do have unlimited ammo but hellfires take 3 mins to reload and hydras 20s? It's long enough to make you think about using them anyway, you can't just lock missiles and spam. Plus its more fun from range with the front mounted camera!

HAWX is rubbish, I hate that game. This is actually quite fun.

The handling is quite complex in that you have to apply collective pitch and cyclic pitch separately (With the left and right stick). Which means you have pitch and roll on the left stick and thrust and yaw on the right stick. Takes a while to get used to but it's very rewarding

The video that the other guys embedded on this thread is from an old game, its not the game we're talking about btw. Check out the youtube links I posted above.

H.A.W.X is rubbish, this game is amazing and nothing like H.A.W.X.

Thanks for the reply. so with a normal joystick it will be pitch roll and yaw on the stick and the throttle for cyclic movement I guess.
