Just finished building my new rig and all was going well till i installed a couple of games (Fear & Crysis) within 2 mins of playing the games i get artifacting (screen full of red dots) i assume the card is faulty :(

The strange thing is it ran 3Dmark 06 perfectly fine, I'm using the latest Crysis beta drivers and this was a fresh Windows XP re-install.

I bought the card over a week ago from OcUK and i really need it replacing before christmas as most of my presents are PC games. What would be my best bet returning the card to OcUK (i don't even mind doing the 100 mile round trip if they would swap it at the shop, I did buy it online though) or returning it to BFG ?

Thanks guys

Have you tried downclocking the card to standard GT speed (600/1500/1800)? I think it simply can't do the pre-oc speed. If you really can't wait for the replacement to play your games then I'd do that first then RMA later when you have finished your games.

Best thing is to give them a call to see if they will swap card in store.

Thanks for the suggestion Steve

I may try down clocking it and see if that will get me through Christmas, Been doing a bit of digging around and it would seem this is quite a big problem with the BFG OC2 :(

Am I mistaken or is that the second post about a BFG OC2 I've seen? Doesn't bode well - maybe they're pushing these cards a bit too far?

The problem with these kind of GPU faults and forums is that it does tend to be a bit of a self selecting sample. Without knowing how many cards have been sold and are being used out there, it's impossible to say what percentage are going belly up.

Bottom line though is if yours can't run properly at the factory overclock, then it's faulty and needs to be returned.

OK

I downclocked the card to a standered 8800GT and have been playing Crysis and Fear for about 2 hours with no problems.

So my thinking is to just keep the card running at stock 600,1800 until maybe the new 9800 which shouldn't be too long now then rma this card and hopefully get a revised card with better cooling etc. back in return. I will then replace my 8800GTS in my HTPC with the returned card.

Thoughts?

After reading all the problems that BFG owners are getting i won't be buying a BFG product again, wish i got a leadtek instead :(

So the card is perfectly fine but just won't do the stated oc speed? I would still RMA it tbh if I have paid a premium in the first place for the oced version. Thought the BFG is supposed to have very good customer service so I'm sure you will have no problem rma it with OCUK or BFG directly. But with the current lack of stock I'd probably just run the card as it is for now.

There is another option of using NiBitor to edit the core voltage to 1.1V instead of 1.05V which should allow it to do the OC speed and more most likely, but of course do it at your own risk and lose the warranty.

yeah, I still fully intend o RMA it, but i'm thinking it might be beter to wait till all the problems are sorted out first, plus i don't want to be left without a PC while the rma process is going through wich coud be a while with current availability of 8800GT's

Same goes for EVGA 8800GT SSC Edition, apparently. I'll let you know on Monday when my girlfriend recieves hers.

the fact i have added a thermalright HR03 and heatsinks to mine means it cannot be a heat issue im sure of it, and must be crap quality control and the fact they (the manufactuers) can get away with it is unfair
