I have to say by now I would have thought there would be a small but noticeable difference in PC game graphics being a little better than the Xbox 360, but still there isnt much in it.
Just recently got myself Call of Duty3 as its not out on the PC and I have to say the graphics are cracking.
So when will the PC be getting the graphical legs to out run the xbox.
Can anyone say from experience that the lastest SplinterCell looks better on the PC as Ive only seen it on the xbox?

See next years games as wel as new DirectX 10 games, such as:

Crysis
STALKER
Flight Simulator X
Alan Wake (which granted is a 360 game as well).

A lot of the 360 games on the PC can look a lot better, for example higher resolutions, better textures and better framerates, just you need a system that can actually handle all of that.

If Alan Wake is going to be as good as everyone makes out, then I suspect the 360 version wouldn't have a chance in hell of being anywhere near as good as the PC version.

As has already been said wait until next years games are out and the DX10 games. Consoles are always one step behind. And until they make consoles upgradable [which is likely to be never] then it will always be this way.

oblivion tweaked on the pc would look a lot better than on the x360. I'm gna be getting a x360 becasuse their games list is pretty damn good :)

That doesn't make a lot of sense to me - surely if consoles are 'one step behind', we shouldn't have to wait until next year?

Well okay, so the next gen consoles when they come out are roughly equal to PC graphics.. but thats for a very short time. 360, PS3 and all the rest can't and wont keep up.

but loom at PC hardware, it still takes the developers time to get to grips with the PC hardware (gfx card, dual core cpus etc).

With consoles they have one setup to work on and push to the max, with PC's the have intel/amd releasing a new cpu ever x amount of months, nvidia.ati releasing new gfx cards every x amount of months.

People wonder why developers tend to go towards the consoles for making games and then port them to the PC.

Simple - consoles core hardware never chanages but the pc - upgraded i to the latest spec and 3 months later its out of date,

It already is with a top of the range system. Yes it's a lot more expensive but the graphics on a high end machine are superior to the 360 especially as the 8800 has just been released. It's not a fanboy comment or anything it's just fact at the moment, PC graphics were already on par with the 360 came out, one o the reasons why i never got the console in the first place. However in terms of value for money, a 360 is way better than a high end system.

High end PC's use brute force to achieve great graphics where as consoles have hardware that does not change so it gives developers a chance to learn how to, and fully optimize the graphics for the hardware. You only have to look at Call of Duty 3 which from what I have heard looks better than the previous one - same hardware. I am starting to get a bit fed up with PC gaming as recent releases such as Gothic 3 and Neverwinter Nights 2 have proven to poorly optimized.

I do believe though that the latest and best PC hardware can surpass the level of graphics on the 360 and probably the PS3, that's if the game (Crysis) is designed to take account of top end systems. Most of us on this forum could be described as PC enthusiasts whom are prepared to pay huge sums on gaming rigs. I do believe that that for the near future the casual gamer whom wants great graphics is better off getting a console. In about 3 years time mid level mainstream PC hardware will surpass console graphics. The only thing kept me with PC gaming is the mouse and keyboard as I suck with a gamepad.

i myself am well impressed with cod3 i was amazed when i got it home and played it.

can't believe its not on pc yet :(

Does it look amazing. I was thinking about picking up a copy but I was bit worried that it would be too difficult for me as I suck with a gamepad. Are you able to save whenever you want to.

Working for a company that is in the gaming market, I can tell thee that it is a lot easier to render HQ textures and modeling for the PC. However console game developer use all the tricks in the book to deal with the hardware limitations.

It all boils down to lazy coding. PC game developers won't put in the effort for a particular hardware range, all they do is bump up the min spec.

I still find my Xbox 360 significantly slower than the PC in FPS games, which I may be mistakenly be attributing to more grunt in my PC (2Gb RAM, RAID 0 Raptors, 6300 and 1900 XT)
