Scientists create laptop battery that lasts 30 years??

Should be pretty cheap but low power outputs

"It is estimated that Betavoltaic batteries containing Tritium, have a specific power of approximately 24 watts per kilogram, a full load operating life of 10 years, and an overall efficiency of around of 25%. The batteries should therefore be cheap, long-life, high energy density, and low-power"

Edit: Oops, misread.

Although this did amuse me. :o

The reason the battery lasts so long is that neutron beta-decay into protons is the world's most concentrated source of electricity, truly demonstrating Einstein’s theory E=MC2.

Great.......but the other hardware in the laptop will be outdated after a few months :S

Nothing Energizer will be getting worked up about. I still get ever so angry everytime I think about the self perpetuating battery that was bought and buried by that very company. :o

I've never seen or heard any solid evidence, but I've spoken to numerous people about it, and they've all believed it to be true. So I just assumed that it was.

Wasn't there another rumour out and about how two US scientists devloped a viable cold fusion solution in the '70's? Apparently they were forbidden to speak about it....sounds a bit like an urban myth but who knows eh?

Christ. :/

It really wouldn't surprise me though... I think that in the years to come, inventions such as this could have been one of the keys to saving the planet. Even though I'm sceptical as to how much of an a/effect we're having on global warming, I'd still feel better if things such as self-perpetuating batteries and what not, where in circulation. Just in case.

I heard batteries were delevoped in the WWII era that could last hundreds of years, naturally it was killed off, classified and ignored by people who stand to make money from regular batteries.
